I was about to hit the 'buy' button on this;
Garmin StreetPilot 7200 7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
When a fellow camper said:
A. It will not work in a Class C, because of the cabover?
B. Tomtom has better roads info, Garmin has lake info?
Too much info, brain overload.
Anyone here have some 'straight' answers of this?
I need to order one asap so it arrives at the CG before I hit the road.
Thanks

I'm on my second Garmin product. The first was a Street Pilot 2610. My current one is the Street Pilot c-550. The 2610 served me well, BUT... it lost the satellites from time to time. It would always re-acquire, but what a pain in a few critical moments. The c-550 has the newer high sensitivity receiver with a lot more "stick-to-itiveness". I would choose a Garmin product with that new receiver.
You can check the spec sheet for each of the products on their website.

I have the Garmin 7200 and it is fantastic. It works very well while sitting at the dinette table inside my 5er. These units are WAAS enabled which means they work on satellite and ground towers. It will work just fine in your Class C.

What he was saying. On most class "C" the bunk area of the drive area, over hangs the windshield. This over hang blocks the signal from the satellite so the receiver can't get the signals for satellites. Like parking you camper in a tunnel.
Some units seem to work in class "C's" esp. the newer GPS units. Push the go bottom, bring it home and give it a shot. Some units do require a remote antenna. JM2Cents Bill

I have 4 gps's...3 laptop and 1 mobile. Garmin GPS 18, MS Street & Trips, Co-Pilot9 and a MIO C320. They all lose sat signal as you drive depending on the road... Trees, low spots and any other number of obstructions. But, they will re-acquire the signal 99.9% of the time in less than 30 secs.
The MIO is the one I move from the motorhome to the toad when I travel. It has a MP3 player, SD slot, low cost and a bunch of other features. It can be hacked real easy. I added Text to speech in about 5 mins. XP see it as a storage device so you can modify from you PC with a USB cable. The SD card is also seen as a storage deice if you have on installed. There are update programs, xfer programs and PIO loader programs.
Bottom line go for it.

I have a 7200 and to answer your questions:
I did have to install the external antenna on my 7200 as it kept loosing the signal in my class A. Bust Buy open package price of $26.00 solved the problem.
I just spoke with Garmin yesterday about the map problem showing nothing but lakes, has been a p---off of mine since I bought it. Here is what Garmin told me the fix was. Go into settings/map/zoom level detail then turn on cities and towns. I have not tried this yet as my MH is in storage, but I am anxious to see if this is the fix.
Any 7200 users know if this is correct?
