How would you wire the 50 amp 4 wire plug that goes to your 5 er on to a three wire 30 amp cable that goes to the pedelstal.Or if you know of a website .I'am tired of dragging that heavy 50 amp cable out when i don't need it most of the time. Thanks

Buy an adapter, a short 1' cable available at most camping stores for about $50. If you try to make it the plug alone will cost more.

I bought a 30 amp cable with a 50 amp female plug for mh and a 30 amp male plug for pedestal from wally world. It works fine and is a lot lighter.

Assuming you already have a #10 3-wire cable with a 3-prong male plug on one end - then you will need a 50a 4-wire female plug that goes into the trailer end receptacle. The cheapest I could find was online at Northern Tools. When you take the plug apart, there are 4 terminals - a ground, a common and 2 hot legs (normally red and black). Wire the common cable usually white to the 50a white (silver) terminal in the plug. Then cut a short jumper of #10 wire and connect the black and red terminals. Reassemble, and that's it. You will now have both RV 50a legs powered from the one hot leg from the 30a pedestal, a common to match the 30a pedestal and the trailer ground connected to the 30a pedestal ground. Make sure you follow the conventions for common and ground and everything matches up. I got 25' of #10 stranded from HD, but I would go with 30' next time.

becron...

If you use a 30 amp cord with 50 amp circuit breakers at both ends, you run the risk of pulling too much power and overheating the cord. This could cause a fire, maybe if the cord is laying in dry grass, maybe where it passes into your RV.

The purpose of a circuit breaker is to protect the cable. You need a 30 amp circuit breaker to protect 30 amp-capable cord.

I think an adapter is best combined with a 30 amp extension.

Here's one solution: (CW is not the ONLY supplier of these either).
www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.c........-Adapter-with-25-30Amp-Cord/skunum=15889

I use this 1' "dogbone" that screws up into my 50amp. coach receptacle and attaches to my 30amp. cord, (cheaper than buying a new cord).
