if the electric water heater is heating, i used my electric hot water heater this weekend for the first time, how do you know if it is heating the water? why does manual say turn on gas if you are using elecrticty? i turned the water heater switch inside of unit on and the one outside at the hot water tank, then waited awhile and checked and the water was hot.

On my trailer, the inside switch is for gas and the one on the tank is for electric. Just turn on the switch that is on the tank...if your water gets hot the electric mode is working. You can have both gas and electric on if you need to heat the water fast or want fast recovery time.

Both the AC and Gas switches are located inside our 5er. If using gas, a light comes on. No light showing that your using AC, I just check it about 10-15 mins. after I turn it on, by then it's usually warm to hot. When at a full hook up campground, I save my gas and use their electricity. My wife and I can both shower and never run out of hot water when using the AC feature of the hot water heater.

You do not have to have gas on for the electric water heater to work. It is control by switch usually by sink for gas. You have two switchs for electric one at the heater and one at control panel. dan

Next time turn the outside switch on and leave the inside switch off. The electric does make a very slight noise when heating. Run some hot water out of the faucet to make sure the tank is full of water not air.

You should be able to hear your water heater when the electric element is heating the water. I can hear mine under the sink and also outside at the access panel. I only turn on the gas switch if I don’t have an electric hookup and I never turn off the outside switch on the heater.

Make sure that your hot water tank is not bypassed. Emptying it and bypassing it is part of the winterizing treatment. it is bypassed so the anitfreeze never gets in your hotwater tank. Part of getting ready for the summer season is un-bypassing the hot water tank. Running the electric or gas heater with no water in the tank would be a bad thing.
Well duh...that is antifreeze above. Some day I'll learn to type

I beg to differ .... It is in Fact simply, a "Water Heater", and Now you have the rest of the story.
