I have just finished 1100 miles of a month long trout fishing trip, have kept fuel/milage figures and averaged 8.73 in the mountains -loaded to the max and pulling our Suzuki toad ,on relative flat running got 10.83.I ran regular gas the first 500 miles then switched to high test with a 15.6% improvement in mpg -the main difference noted was when in the hills I would drop from 60 to 55mph instead of 60 to 50 with regular gas.

In the Mountains along the continental divide where I drive, I get from 6-8mpg with the V10. I'd love to get 10, but not where I drive.
I should also mention that I am almost always dry camping and using the generator. (not sure how much that takes away from the mileage)

I had the 5.4L in a Four Winds 21RB, and I wanted a little more. So it might be even more lacking in a 25 footer. You'd have your foot in it more, cancelling out some mpg gains you might expect.
Both units are Majestics? Previous rental units, right? Nothing wrong with that, but I'd want them gone over thoroughly by an ace mechanic.
Edit: OTOH, some V-10's have been reported to put out a lot of heat into the cab. Depends on the rig, apparently.....

I'd love to have that engine in my Coachman. But maybe it was all down hill.

Our Cruise America ex-rental is a 2000 22' Tioga that has the 5.4 triton v8 2 valve engine and 4.11 gears. We took it on a 3,000 mile one month long vacation last year towing a 14' Gregor aluminum boat, 25hp merc outboard with 4 bicycles packed in it. It was packed full of food and gear. We averaged 10.5 MPG for the whole trip. We went from So. Calif to S.E. Idaho down the Columbia river to Mt.St Helens, down the coast of Oregon, across to Crater lake, down to Shasta, down to Tahoe and Twin Lakes then back home. The terrain was a mix of everything. I also use this MH to pull our 4 dirt bikes, my boat and sometimes my 1980 FJ40 LandCruiser.
The V8 is nice, but lacks the torque that the V10 has. I can pull most hills moderate to large at any speed I want as long as I keep the motor in the 3,400 to 4,000 RPM range. On flat ground, I can knock down 14 MPG if I can keep it in overdrive and keep the speed down to 60 MPH. The newer 3 valve 5.4 might have a little more torque.

From Central Nova Scotia to Long Point Ontario mostly highway driving during the whole trip.
One way
1483 miles 407.329Lt = 3.641 miles/liter = 17.0659487 liters/100 km
Miles per Gal US 3.641 miles/liter = 13.7826843 miles/gallon(US) = 22.1810803 km/gallon(US)
Miles per Gal UK 3.641 miles/liter = 16.5523137 miles/gallon(UK) = 26.6383667 km/gallon(UK)
Complete trip
3107 miles 876.6Lt. = 3.54437 miles/liter = 17.5312169 liters/100 km
Miles per Gal US 3.54437 miles/liter = 13.4169 miles/gallon(US) = 21.5924075 km/gallon(US)
Miles per Gal UK 3.54437 miles/liter = 16.113025 miles/gallon(UK = 25.9314001 km/gallon(UK)
GVWR 4853 KG 4853 Kilogram = 10699.03357 Pound(Lb)
Well there was a little more up hill on the way back but the unit is an ex rental and from the trip home with it it far exceeded the specification claim of 22lt per 100Km
However there was a time last year I'd have gladly traded engines when (pop goes a plug)
As in the signature, just me the wife and the mutt and we travel light. I let the brain in the chip do all the driving I just keep it between the poles and out of other's rear ends.
Next year there'll be a scooter and a generator so that may make a difference.
Cheers

Hey WilleyB, my wife and mother in law are from N.S. Went there and really enjoyed the place. I think the V10 you have maybe the way to go if driven mostly in hilly areas.

We full-time in a 2008 Jayco Melbourne 29D with the new PSD transmission. After 10,000 mile towing a Jeep Liberty from Key West to NM-CO We get 8.5 on flat winded roads, without the tow we get 8-10 MPG this is with a 4.58 rear ratio.
I would go for the v-10 but if it has 16 inch tires, 4.10 ratio and the older 4-sp I think you would get 6-8 MPG without tow. The 5.4L is a good engine but is on the E-350 chassic. The V-10 should be on the E-450 chassic, you will get the ext oil cooler and 14050 chassic. Thanks

Our 2007 Phoenix Cruiser model 2350 gas mileage is based on the following
- 2007 Ford E350 chassis
- V10 gasoline engine
- curb weight unloaded is 9200 pounds
- L=23'-8", W=7'-9", H=9'-10" to top of the a/c unit, B+ aero-dynamic cap
- towing a 2000 Toyota MR2 100% of the time
- cruising speed between 63 & 67 mph
- generator usage 10 hours (using the same gas from the same tank, amount consumed is unknown)
- miles driven, nearly 5000
- mileage averaged from beginning to end of trip
Gas Mileage: 9.8 mpg
We hope to improve gas mileage through.....
- lower our cruising speed to 55 - 57 mph
- increase tire pressure in RV and towed vehicle
- not use the cruise control
Bought new in June 2007, Phoenix Cruiser-2350
Fits inside our garage.
