campalaska wrote: ya, as a response about the camping in the resort daylodge parking lot, the new owner, Jon burne, bought the resort. You should be able to stay there. he's making tons of renovations to the area. because they are demolishing the old daylodge and making it a high school (we didn't have one before, out K-8 school has only 200 kids!) they might have the lot closed at times, if you cant camp there head up to the crow creek mine. while you're there you can tour the historic gold mine, now a tourists attraction, and even pan for gold.
Great! I'll look forward to being able to do that finally!
Well gang the adventure continues,my first night in Canada was spent in Fort Macleod. The next day was a rainy day going thru Calagary. It may be a beautiful city but I couldn't see a thing, torrential rain. Next night was spent at Toad River the view out of the back of my camper was taken at 10:30pm
The trip up Rte 43 to Valley View is a jaw bouncing ride in some spots. Then on up Rte.2 to Dawson Creek the start of the Alsakan Highway. The people standing by the monument are also TC owners out of Oregon we had a nice chat.
The Alaskan Highway looks like a ribbon layed out in a forest the farther north you go it throws in some what of a roller coaster ride. This road is in fantastic shape. It has a few rough spots, but I driven much worse in the northeast. This is prime TC area so many places to boondock or campgrounds if you prefer. Fuel is plentiful and so is the picture taking. Wildlife is in abundance bears, wolfs, caribou, bison just to name a few, the views out of this world!!!

For you techies so far I driven 4547 miles burned 336 gals of diesel fuel and spent $1752 on fuel and been behind the wheel for 76 hrs in 8 days and I'm only in Whitehorse Yukon.

Good to know you are trucking along and enjoying the scenery. Sure wish we were with you. Take lots of photos and maybe we can put slide shows together for the fall rally in NY. Stay safe!

Dave
Hi Dave,
They won't be seeing any northern lights as we now have 24 hours of daylight up here. It won't get dark enough to see the lights here in Fairbanks until the middle of August. Today we'll have 21 hours and 38 minutes of sun shine and the temperature up to 75. Our mosquitoes have arrived.
To the other Dave, welcome to Alaska. Are you coming to
Fairbanks? PM me if you have any questions.
Good luck,
Chuck
