The GVWR according to Dodge site is 10,100. The Fuzion 403 has a hitch weight of 2795 lb. My Toyo tires have a rating 3195 lb max per tire. The dodge payload is 2696 lb not including the aftermarket air bags. The overall weight of the Fuzion is 13010 lb.

Is that the posted weight/brochure weight? I am not familier with the 403, BUT if it is a double/triple slide I would suspect it is W A Y off! Almost ALL the companys lie on there weight stickers. I chose a dually when we went from a 33" 5er to our 40 foot rig. It really is a personal choice, I did it because we usually have firewood, and a bed full of stuff and even with my Toyos that were rated for 37xx lbs. I was pushing the limit of those as verified by the CAT scale! I would go with a tire rated for more than what you have if I did any 40 foot rig with a SRW truck.

The 20" Toyo A/T tire load rating is 3195 lb per. I just want to be safe.

I've seen 3450 lb capacity 6 ply rated C tires but a 6 ply rated tire is not the best for load carring if safety is a concern.
Again, what is the "load range" (C/D/E/F/G) on your 20" tires ??

That does not look like enough rear tire capacity.

I towed for a while with single rear wheels, and each rear tire was about 500 pounds overloaded. I did have multiple tire failures. No damage ever happened from the tire failures, but it was a huge PITA and added hours to a few drives (wasn't really willing to run without a replacement spare for extended distances).

WIth the pin weight on that trailer, and those tires, you may be in a worse situation tire wise than I was.

Welcome to the forum Mike! I see you just joined. Lots of good (and varied) opinions here. As you haven't purchased the Fuzion 403 yet, you may want to consider looking at a lighter / smaller TH.

Good Luck

Dam Joe, you beat me to it.

mijackson: I have a 3612 Raptor and used to pull it with a 2006 F-250 all over the mountains of Colorado and it did a fine job of stopping and pulling the rig (definately over the rating of the truck). However I've since upgraded to a F-450 (looks like Joe's in his pic) and it's night & day difference on how it handles the Raptor especially in high winds.

I guess I am confused on what airbags do. Are they absorbing the extra weight without putting any excess weight on the axles? I also did not see if if you had a dually or not. I am pulling the Raptor 3814SS with a 08 F350 DRW and personally, I would not pull it with ANYTHING less than this truck. No way would I pull it with a SRW truck or 3/4 ton truck. That is my opinion and we all have them for what they are worth. If I could afford it, I might consider a MDT or an F450 to give me just that much more comfort. I have alot riding on and more importantly in my truck when I am towing my Raptor and I want as much as I can get over and above the requirements.
In terms of size, I sometimes wonder why I have the size TH I have until I put all of the dirtbikes, quads etc.. in the back for the weekend riding trips. Than, I am glad for what I have. Everyone get's to have their toys to ride and we have plenty of room for 4 people plus the occaisonal guest. You won't be sorry if you are ready for the fuel it takes to pull these bad boys. Good luck!

Don't worry about the axles, they are rated for over 11,000 pounds from the manufacture. The springs are where you get the lower ratings, and your air bags take care of that weight. Normally the only difference in a 2500 and 3500 is the amount and type of spring pack. The axles on a dually are the same up till the first tire as they are on a single wheel 2500. The only reason they get a higher rating is the 2nd tire to handle additional weight. There are those that say they handle better but I have ridden in them and it feels the same to me.

The big issue will be the tires. The air bags do not help them. They must carry the full load no matter what axle or spring you have. So if you can upgrade the springs to support the weight then you really have to focus on the tires/rims.

If you can get those up to par you'll be fine and there are ways to LEGALLY upgrade your GVWR if you have issues with being over the legal weight. If you are interested PM and I'll send you a link. It does cost and you have to pass a test but it is doable. The test is through the DMV, I'm not trying to sell anything. The weights of our trucks is due to the fact they are used for personal so we don't have to pay additional road tax or stop at weigh stations. Once you LEGALLY change it you will have to do both. Don't let the weight police on this site stop you, the vehicle codes are only stated for commercial uses about max weights.

I tow a 40 3 slide 5er w/a 2500 chevy and have never had issues with the weight or drive ability. I put over 10,000 a year on the trailer and truck for the past 4 years. I also air down my tires for days at a time and drive all over the dunes to park with no issues.

I still think speed has more to contribute to safety and longevity of your tires then anything else.

Please do not respond to my thread with you personal opinions about my setup. I don't really care for any weight police comments. You drive yours and I'll drive mine.

Wow apparently you don't pay attention to the weight police. Even though you tow 10,000 miles a year the following will eventually happen.

Your tires will disintegrate.

You will be unable to stop and cause a minor accident. But a savy lawyer, with the help of the weight police, will file a law suit and get everything you own to compensate the victim for a dent in the bumper of his hybrid vehicle.

Your wife will leave you due to the lengthy jail term you receive for exceeding the manufacturer ratings of the truck (Even though it isn't illegal).

The CHP will pull you over, even though you are not subject to commercial laws, and have your rig impounded.

I think I have covered everything.

The weight police also said you must forward this post to 10 overweight friends within the next 10 minutes or you will have bad luck for 10 years and be forced to replace your garage wall Playboy calendar with autographed naked pictures of Bea Arthur and the Golden Girls.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Some of the unanswered questions were what are the rating of tires and the answer is Toyo LT325/60R20 121/R D/8. Second, I am considering a smaller Fuzion now. Thanks!
