Hi,

We'll be going from Gardiner MT to Custer SD in a couple weeks. Would like to know some points of interest and places we should stop along the way? We only do about 250 miles a day w/ our 40' RV and small toad.

Thanks!

All 3 are excellent. The museum in Cody is not only western art, it's other (very good) art, and a big exhibit on Plains tribal life. Worth at least a day & a half in itself.

Nightly rodeo in Cody too, if that interests you.

From your other posts, it looks like you are doing a kind of "hit the high points" trip. That's not a bad idea, as you'll know what you want to go back to see at greater length. (and you will) Given your 250 mile a day wish, I'd go from Gardiner to Garyowen on I-90 and stop at Little Bighorn Battlefield. Its about 250 miles and there is a nice KOA at Garyowen. The next day, you'll have another 250 miles into Custer.
Devil's Tower is worth seeing, but maybe save it for another trip. Also, Cody is worth a couple of days at the museum (5 museums in one building) as well as the Rodeo, the Irma Hotel in town, etc. Just my two cents.

Retired - Will golf at a moment's notice

I just posted on your other thread. Sorry to see you've decided to go through Gardiner rather than Cody. I agree with Jim about seeing the Custer Battlefield. I wouldn't rate it too high, but if you enjoy that kind of history it's good. My wife is a distant descendant of old George, so we sometimes take her relatives there when they're visiting. Obviously Cody isn't on your route. Neither are the Bighorns. Too bad. I'd have suggested a visit to the Cody museum, an overnight at the Tie Hack FS campground in the Bighorns (or the Buffalo KOA if you must have hookups), then maybe a stop at Devils Tower the next day.

Well, you never know ... I'm not the driver or final decision maker on the drive. Just gathering facts and opinions. My in-laws will have the final say. Perhaps we will stay our last 2 nights at Yellowstone in Gardiner, and then drive through the park out the east entrance and on to Custer from that route. I have to see how comfortable my father-in-law is w/ mountain passes, etc. that that entails. EVERYONE is recommending Cody, so it would be great to stop there on Monday for a 1/2 day and then overnight somewhere further east. Thanks for the advice!

Our vacation time is limited (we're not retired) and we have to be in Minneapolis on Saturday!
