I just bought a new Ragen and they want $400 to swap from one 12 volt to two 6 volt batteries. Does this sound like too much.

Not bad, if that includes the cabling and install. You can find Trojan T105's around $150 each. So $100 for the cabling and install isnt bad.

For me it was four batteries at Costco, now ~$78 ea.
Battery box to hold all four, $85? Dual box is less or none is fine as long as they are secured.
Custom 2/0 cable to connect, I don't recall but unless you are getting a big inverter some battery cables from walmat are fine.
So figure $450 for a do it yourself quad set up.

I doubt the dealer was putting in Trojan, probably just overpriced Interstate.

I purchased 4 6v batteries locally for 280.00 +tax and the cable cost another 62.00. I purchase the boxes from Office Depot for 28.00 for a total cost of around 400.00

If you are just swapping over to two 6 volts. all you will need is one cable between the two, if you need a larger cable you could double up two like cables from your local auto parts store.

We ordered our Rage'n without a battery and I bought two 6 volt Golf Cart batteries from Sam's Club for about $60 each and currently have them strapped down in the rack without boxes, so my cost was only about $30 more than they wanted for one cheap 12 volt.

In my case $400 sounds high. What kind of batteries are they going to supply, Are you getting credit for the 12 volt battery? Are they including boxes (the 12 volt boxes are usually too small)

I bought two 6 volt golf cart batts (not trojans, they are too expensive) at Sams Club for 158 out the door. I got a custom cable from a battery shop for 6.00 I used the existing 12v battery boxes, the 6V's dont quite fit, but the lids are secure. IMO $400 is a rip-off, UNLESS they were supplying Trojan T-105's.

I think its a bit much as others said. Of course it depends on the 6v they are using.

-6v from Sams, $67 x 2 = $134
-2 boxes from Arrow Trailer, $35
-1 foot cable with ends, under $20

So if your comfortable doing yourself, it's under $200. But then you'll get addicted and want to start adding more...

On my 08 FA3005 -project is underway right now.

Two Costco 6v purchased in September for previous RV. 2 x 79.00
Two Costco 6v 2x 81.00 (no cores)(purchased 2 days ago)
two Dual Dyno GC2 Battery boxes 2 x 55.00 (purchased last Friday)
Welding supplies, paint, grinding/sanding wheels, steel angle to support and make new tray 45.00

Still working on the wiring -clean-up is needed beyond the series/parallel cabling for the quad 6v but a none inverter setup the cabling should be $20-30 max unless you need to add or upgrade your main battery bank fuse.

Just do it yourself. 2 Costco 6v @ $78/each + ~$10 cable = ~$170. You'll be very happy you made the switch to the 6V's

You'll also need an additional battery box since you only have one 12V now. My 6V while a little taller still fit in my existing 12V boxes.
