Love mine. Interesting you guys are running the gain so high. I find any higher then 8.5 and the brakes tend to lock up very easily in city traffic.

I have an 08 F450, I agree with everyone else, the integrated brake controller works much better than my prodigy did. Much smoother. I use gain 9

I have a great dealer at Hoffman in H-burg. They are the leader in volume since Francis shut down. They were the only ones who stock my current spec`d vehicle for their lot. Everyone else had to special order it. Some dealers hear you have X-plan and they don`t want to deal with you.

I guess that is why they always have the pretty trucks sitting, literally, on their lot

I have one on my 08 F250. Love it as well. However, my gain is set at 4. I have a 30ft 5er with a dry weight of 11,000 lbs. The installer told me 4 would be fine and I really do not feel the trailer "pushing" me. Questioning if I should play with it some to see if it can be better.

I also like the tow/haul feature on my 08. I am not sure if it is available on pre-08 models but the automatically downshifting is really nice and gives me a better feeling.

Have a quick read through the manual for instructions on how to set it up. It involves driving about 20km/hr (I believe) then manually locking the trailer brakes. If they do not skid, increase gain. 4 seems pretty low for a unit of that weight.

I agree. I pull a heavy duty dump trailer with my work PSD. Empty, it weighs 3,800. Set the BC at 3.5. Set to 4, it will lock the wheels at 25 MPH. As the weight increases, I re-adjust. Anything above 10K gross, the BC is maxxed with no lockup at 25 MPH.

Of course, condition and type of electric brakes will vary. I think the manual say some trailers will not lock the brakes at 25 MPH.

Also, get the brakes warm before trying to lockup to set gain. Cold brakes may lockup at a lower setting than really needed.

kinda off the subject and i dont know about up where you are, but down here in MS, ford is doing employee pricing and 2 years free maintenance on all f150 and f250. something to look into and you wont need your xplan....

Got some numbers today on a 250 V-10 SC longbed. The good new is, I can get one and reasonably fast. The bad new is, I don`t like the color, the rear windows don`t go down, they tilt out (the kids will not love that), there`s no power seat, no rear seat door pocket or seat back storage, the interior is camel (GAG!),there`s no rear head rests, and I`ll have to mortgage the sucker cause they`re giving me 17K on my trade. You heard that right, 17. On a truck that sold for 30k just 10 months and 10,000 miles ago. Pristine condition. They`re basing it on what the local auction will bring. Am I off base here thinking that`s crap. There`s no way this truck is going to auction. I bet it ends up on their used lot across the street asking 25,000 before the week is out. I think I`m keeping what I have. That`s just crazy.

And yes, that includes the new family discount. Some family. Whiney rant off.

Thanks for the help. I will read the manual and test the brakes.
