quote=happyeaglesfan, I think we can agree to disagree. You being a stealer and me being the consumer!

I think we can agree to disagree. I used to believe what you think until I got in the business and saw the real picture. I am definitly not a stealer, thanks for your opinion. I just thought I would try to be a voice of reason for you. I too would like to buy a new truck right now and mine is worth nothing. I do this everyday and see both sides, I can't afford to lose on mine and swing the payment of a new one. I won't be buying now, but it sure isn't the dealers fault

Agree, it is not all the dealers fault. I just think they are taking advantage of the situation in this instance. I know they are not in business to lose money. But I too am not looking to throw my money into the trash. I, like I said before, will drive my truck now until the fenders fall off of it. It would be a nice upgrade but not a pressing need. Filling my tank, when needed, and putting food on my table is where I will spend my money.
Good luck to you.
Happy Camping!

There's a little more mark-up than that. A 45K Burb could be discounted fairly easily to 40k,and more if there not selling good, plus all the current incentives at the time.

You are right I was just guessing from home but here are actual figures
MSRP $45,590
dealer invoice $42,557
supplier price $42,170
GM employee $40,360
total mark up $3,033 and you know no one ever pays sticker so just how much do you think they are making? If the dealer is trying to beat another dealer ( all the time ) that mark up is usually gone.

There has to be more mark up than that in a Suburban. I have a deal through my employer where we're able to get Toyotas through a dealer at $100 over actual invoice. We purchased a Camry Hybrid and the sticker was around $31k, they showed us the invoice from Toyota and we got it for $25,2xx. That's almost 20% off and I'm sure they were still making more than $100 on the deal.

I'd be surprised if there's only 12% mark up on a Suburban. There was just a special on tv the other night about how the trucks and big truck based suv's were cash cows because of the mark up.

If you want a deal you need to look at a five year old Burb, not a new one.
For a great deal get a dealers license and go to the local auction.

This is why NEW suvs/truck have about stopped selling, the NEW price has not dropped and the used price just fell out the bottom.

times hard or not , still sounds just like typical dealer BS trying to get yours for nothing so they can make money...

Agreed,
That's why there's often much more money to be made selling used trucks than new. They buy them WAY under market then sell them with a good markup.

I sold my 2003 6.0 PSD Excursion last fall for $24,500 the first day I listed it on Craigs list and today people are only willing to pay $13,101.00 for the same vehicle.

You are right but it is for the manufactures not the dealers or sales people

Here is the invoice on a 55k Sub.

MSRP: $55,095
Order Type: TRE Retail Stock
Age of Inventory: 147
Stock Number:
Status: Available
*DIP: 49711.78
*GMS Price: 47889.95

This one is about as loaded as you can get a 1500 Sub. It has about $5300 from sticker to invoice. There is currently only $4000 in rebate, for a total of 9300 off. I have signs in all my Subs at work for $9300 of and NOBODY even looks at them. The used car guy is sick to his stomach when people want to trade in a truck or suv. At the auctions most trucks and suv's don't even get a bid. Now is them time to buy late model used truck if you want one cheap. Hopefully the gas thing turns arround or at least stabilizes. I will still drive my own Silverado though.

The bottom line is now is not the time to be buying a new truck, or selling a used one. You can make a switch, but you are going to have to buy used to break even. I would just keep the truck for now and let this mess blow over.

Dealers have gotten greedy on sticker prices on trucks, but they were just riding the housing bubble also, when people were buying all sorts of things at inflated prices because money was cheap. They will have to adapt, and order trucks with much lower MSRP's, because people just don't have the credit to buy these days, and credit is hard to come by. The inflated gas/diesel prices only compound the issue, but the Fed is selling us out to save the big greedy financial corporations. This will pass.

And who’s fault is this?......oh that’s right the over educated, over paid morons at the top that decided we didn’t need to manufacture cars that make good fuel economy but instead keep pumping out gas guzzling over priced vehicles so they could stuff their pockets with obscene pay packages and bonuses until they ran us into the toilet.

Even when it was plan to see by a blind person did they do anything to correct it NO, they just keep building bigger and bigger engines that can’t compete with the imports. Thanks guys God Bless all of you.
