Totally agree with the notion that generator use should be minimized under all circumstances, used only in restricted hours, and that they should be as quiet as possible. Stayed in a National Forest Service campground in Utah only to have some clown run a loud generator ALL NIGHT. Not very considerate and so much for communing with nature. Inverter types like the Hondas should be the only type of generator allowed in campgrounds IMO.

I think that the cost value of your purchase is good! However, some posters have a point. Make sure the noise it puts off is not going to disrupt you. You mentioned no one else is around, so you don't have to worry about courtesy, but you do have to live with the noise (or lack, depends on your tolerance). I personally sleep very well with white noise, so running a generator all night would put me to sleep. You may not be the same.

Why not buy a Champion? They are just as powerful, a bit quieter and less expensive. They also have a good reputation for customer support. If you can't afford a Blue or Red generator, these seem like the next best answer.

But, hey, it's your nickel..

As far as not getting a large amount of "attaboys" from your OP, realize you are posting on a forum where there are many, many very experienced RVers. You seem like more or a newbie..

Myself, been there, done that with Coleman generator. Ended up giving it away when I purchased my Honda. Funny thing is, the guy I gave it to used it once and went out and bought a Honda like mine..

Thanks so much guys. Finally some sensible replys to my post. You know it's not that I can't afford the Yami or Honda inverter, but I'm
not sure it would be worth it for me. Here's the deal; On memorial day weekend we did our maiden camping trip on our new camper. We went with friends which have 5vers. My buddy let me hook up to his genny which is a loud one. To make a long story short, we only ran his generator for about 2-3 hours the whole weekend just to top off batteries. I would never have more use than that for it. A/C is not required where I'll be doing 99% of my camping. At 9,000 to 10,000 feet elevation A/C's are just not needed. Plus here in New Mexico we have about Zero humidity 99.9% of the time. I might consider the Champion as the Craftsman turns out has to be ordered, and Sears is horrible at getting merchandise in in my town. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a nice little red or blue genset, but $2k on something that will likely be used an hour a day on average when I go camping/hunting? I don't think so. I'd rather buy the Champion and save the $1700 for a vacation or some more guns or something.

krazymatt,

Use what you want. Anyone who goes against the grain here will feel the wrath. You stated right up front that you will be all by yourself. I would say put headers and a glass pack on your generator if you want.

Since you, like us, do not need A/C 99% of the time, you might consider a Honda 2000.. They are selling at Wise for $860 no tax and free shipping.. It will certainly do everything you need and at the same time, is much quieter, as well as using much less fuel.. Wise is an excellent company to deal with. If you camp often, the fuel savings could pay for the difference in a fairly short time. As a plus, it is much lighter at less than 50 lbs. Much less than the $1700 difference you are quoting..

Ours charges batteries at almost idle, and at that, you can barely hear it run. We used less than one tank of fuel (less than one gallon) for a week of drycamping. It will run the microwave and the blender just fine! It will even run the A/C in a pinch, but everything else must be off..

BTW we were at an altitude of over 8000 ft most of the time.

I should've known better than to bring up a generator other than a red or blue brand. I didn't realize this forum belongs to the elite bunch whom own the $2k gennys exclusively.
Excuse me...
Arrogance noted.

You know what man! Use that genny, and use it proud! power everything you can power with it. If a fellow camper has a problem. They can kindly come knock on your door, or come into your camp and talk to you about it like an adult.

Perhaps you should have. You didn't ask for advice or ask a question, so why did you make the post in the first place? You were looking for praise, and by your own admission you know about 'red' and 'blue' generators which means you've been reading on here.

The OP mentioned that the loud generator will power his A/C and then he says he only wants it to charge his batteries. Which is it? And he made a statement about what he is going to buy, then doesn't like the responses.

TO THE OP: buy what you want, use it as you will, just be certain to be considerate of your neighbors.

"The pain of an inferior product outlives the joy of any money saved."

Long term you would be better served to buy a "red or blue brand" that will serve you in all situations, not just the use you see today.

when it comes to generators and this forum there is nothing but Honda and they may except you if you have a Yamaha...

you mention sears and you get tackled even though its only a touch football game... they suggest get a champion or other inverter generator...

truth is, if you posted you are looking at a champion you would be accosted by the most of the same posters...

they don't believe in the cost benefit ratio...

I wish CG’s had a sign directing elitist Honda owners to their own section of the park... then we would both be happy... I would rather hear your loud generator then hear grown men crying (and women, don't want to be accused of being sexist)...

I know Honda's are the best and the quietest... I would like to have one, but also know they are incredibly over priced, and that does matter to me... it isn't a affordable issue... its the same reason I and many of you Honda owners don't own a new Airstream or Peterbuilt TV's... money matters even in generators...

and now its suggested you don't even post if its against the grain... WOW...

YOU BAD!!!
