Ah the mentality of the college grad who thinks he's automatically entitled to wealth and slave labor simply because daddy paid his way to party through college and drive a smart import while snubbing his nose at America.
Actually, although my German owned (in '05) Mexican made Dodge like poster number two's truck, I prefer to support American labor when possible. Corporate America thinks cutting out their backbone is the better way to support their bloated heads. As part of that backbone, I'm not apposed to returning the favor as in buying foreign owned products built here in the USA and let the bloated heads fall as they may. What goes around comes around. Our economy is supported by working class Americans or what's left of it and them. That's who we need to support. Go Honda!
The F-150 will survive and will outlive all of us here.

I have been researching small autos the last few months for the 16 yo daughters first car and have learned just how little a brand name means. Auto manufacturing truly is international. American cars rebadged with foreign nameplates and foreign autos with American names. Foreign built with American drivetrains American built with foreign drivetrains. A coupe and a sedan with the same brand and name but with different drivetrains (foreign/American), actually totally different manufacturer. The brand name on most cars is not definitive of much.

This is just crazy talk if you ask me. I guess the "buy American only" crowd lumps me with jdubh2 because we both have Japanese branded tow vehicles. However the quoted statement bothers me a bunch, and I couldn't disagree more. I can't stress enough how important Ford and GM are to North America, and Chrysler to a lesser extent. I can't find one reason to hope for any of the big 3 to fail............might as well pray for $12 per gallon gas, or your house to lose 80% of its value, or maybe a pink slip in the mail. I don't get it at all. I've had a few crappy American cars, and I have had a few less than spectacular Japanese cars, and a real crappy German car, but I don't hate any company (or country) because of it.
eurohazard - very good post!!
Every time I see "buy American" the old song by Perry Como comes to mind. "IT's Impossible". I am an old retired guy who loves his country and is as patriotic as they come. Some speak of computers. I have an HP. I'm just shooting from the hip but I would imagine there are many parts in it shipped in from another country.
Our 05 Dodge was built in Mexico. DW's 06 Lincoln was built in Mexico. Now my 06 Mazda, powered by a Ford Duratec 2.3 while riding on a Ford Focus chassis was built in Tennessee!!!
It doesn't surprise me that cars like the Civic are outselling F series trucks with the price of gas. We traded our SUV and 2nd pickup for the above cars because of gas prices. And just in time!! I guess it is real hard to trade in a larger vehicle right now.

Almost all Honda Civics are built in East Liberty, OHIO (that's in the United States in case you didn't know). And, believe it or not, they're built by AMERICANS. Another surprise, eh? Yes, a little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing.

The profits however go back to the motherland.
Yes. the profits do go back to Japan. So what! These Japanese car companies provide thousands of AMERICAN JOBS to all our fellow Americans that put them together, distribute them, sell them, and service them. NOT TO MENTION the various independent suppliers that support the manufacturing process with various parts, sub assemblies, services, etc.
Keep Americans working and keep the profits here....
Happy trails,
I agree. That's why I bought a Tundra: Built in America by American workers. Toyota's building factories. The Big 3 are closing factories. Support American workers! Keep those dollars here!
