Petrified Forest National Park located in northeast Arizona is seeking volunteers for the summer. Two couples that had signed up, both had to back out due to health issues. The positions assist in the visitor centers greeting visitor, orienting visitors to the park and conducting book sales. If the volunteers are interested there is the opportunity to walk the trails and assist visitors by answering questions. This is also the best method to deter wood theft. The park will provide an RV site with water, sewer and electric in exchange for 32 hours of work per week for a minimum of two months. The nearest small town is Holbrook, AZ with grocery, small department store and doctors. Show Low is the closet town with a hospital, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Holbrook is 22 miles and Show Low is 72 miles. The weather is cooler then Phoenix with highs in the 80s to low 90s, lows in the 60s and low humidity. Area attractions include Grand Canyon, Canyon De Chelly, Meteor Crater, numerous archeological sites, state parks and other National Parks. The positions can start immediately or July or August. I read it as 16 hours each for a total of 32 hours. We wouldn't accept a position, working for the campsite only, for 32 hours each per week.

The National Parks typically ask for a total of 32 hours per week for the site. Now whether it can be split between two people, working at the same time or at separate times would be up to the individual park.

I had a typo in the phone number which has been correct and I wanted to clarify the hours. I would like to have both people volunteer for 32 hours each but it is not required and can be in combination. The most popular schedule is for both to work; one works half day in the visitor center while the other roves the trails to deter wood theft and answer visitor questions; they switch for the second half of the day. If it is a 32 hours combined most of the work is in the visitor center. Thanks to all who are interested in volunteering. You are very special people! There is a small meal allowance for each day worked.

32 hours per couple is OK, the one National Park thing we did required 32 hours EACH...

This one also seems to say 32 hours each. Isn't that a bit extreme?

I cannot believe anyone would even take that position. 32 hours a week per person, would be 64 hours a week. Figureing a wage as low as $5.00 per hour you would be paying $320.00 per week or $1280.00 a month for a site.
I think that $5.00 per hour is even below federal govt minumam wage guide lines. No wounder the other people didn`t show up, You could go work any where and pay for your sight and come out $600.00 or 800.00 ahead.

I hope everyone realizes that volunteer positions are meant to serve the community and not compensate the volunteer. I am a volunteer firefighter who spends much time volunteering without compensation and do so to benefit the community. Volunteer positions in the National Parks serve the community. If compensation is an issue than these positions are not what you are looking for.

I have to agree, a total of 64 hours per week, even with a small meal allowance is too much. I fully understand volunteerism, having given 3500 hours to the National Parks alone, but this is just too much. But as I understand the OP, that is not a requirement.
