I buy that... you did the complete upper end package...

what was you numbers before and after at equal speeds though, I would assume with the long tube headers, the low side of 3000 also improved...

I used to average a little over 7 towing, I drove mostly 60-65.

Last trip I drove 55-60 and got 8.4, return trip home 65-70+ and averaged 8.8. Every little bit helps.

BIG gain in HP, I cruise up hills 70 that I used to crawl up 50-55 pedal to the metal. I'll take the hp gain over gas mileage gain any day.

We are saving more than 50% in gas on our next vacation. Instead of an over 1800 mile trip, we are taking a 800 mile trip. I have to agree with Kaydeejay, if it worked it would be everywhere and in all the new vehicles.

Algae

They said this was top secret and could be in production by 2009. I had also heard that we could have been running our vehicles on water a long time ago. The reason we are not is because of the big money some are making. From what I understand the algae would have to be refine just like crude oil. Watch the Video if it will work for you. Very interesting. We should pass it on and make all the people know of this. I emailed some of my friends and they said they had not heard about it.

Why would the Automaker's include something like this costing them $300 - $5000 depending on which system would be installed when they wouldn't put in a $5 fix to keep Ford Pinto gas tanks from blowing up and killing people?

Ever look at how many TSB's are listed for GM, Dodge and Ford vehicles? Look at the same data for say a Hyundai or Kia (now being built in America in the South). Why can't they engineer out those problems, why do they exist in the first place on most models? The Big 3 (that aren't so big anymore except in new overseas sales) never raise mileage unless they are forced to by new CAFE Standards.

Never used to be a conspiracy kook, but starting to become one. Automaker's and Big Oil having a working relationship, let's just say, an understanding behind the scenes to cooperate together aiming at maximizing profits for both. Nothing else can explain it when there is other working technology that has been around for years.

I changed the camshaft in our truck, installed long tube headers, intake manifold, 3" exhaust and calibrated the new carburetor.

I picked the parks so that the peak efficientcy is about 3000 rpm or 65 mph.

I picked up over 1 1/2 mpg and gained a huge increase in horse power.

Not double, but now I get better mileage at 65 than I used to get at 55.

So, just out of curiousity, where's your break-even point? In other words, at a 1.5mpg increase, how many miles will you have to drive before the cost of the modifications justify themselves?

What did that cost and how many gallons/miles do you have to drive to make it worth it?

I don't care, I did it for the HP and the increase in gas mileage was a bonus and it makes the truck a lot more fun to drive. I only put about 2500 miles per year on the truck. I did the work and for the cam, lifters, true-roller timing set, headers, manifold, carburetor, gaskets, fluids and new exhaust I'm in to it about $850 and enjoyed doing it.

You can't put a $$ justification on fun.

Slowing down from 65 to 60 changes my avg mpg from 8.5 to 9.5. Slowing to 55 it goes to 11. That is a pretty inexpensive mod. On a long leg (~800 miles) 55 vs. 65 may add an extra night on the road but that's OK.

For any trip I look at the differance in fuel cost and then make a decision on how much I wish to burn. Suprisingly, the differance is less then one might think.
