My husband loves to walk around the campgrounds when people have left their sites and pick up their left-over firewood. What is the proper etiquette on this....I almost feel embarassed by it and dont really know if he is suppose to be doing this....what do you think??? Thanks, Annetta

As long as the people have actually left the camground for good, I see no problem with it. If your DH doesn't get it, there is a good chance the campground host will pick it up and re-sell it (yes, I have seen it happen).
However, if the people are coming back, then it is not so good. I have seen that happen, too.
Be careful.
Good luck.

Your husband is certainly welcome to any wood we leave behind.

I must say, BE SURE the people are gone. Some of us have small class C's and go touring during the day. We have lost our firewood several times because someone thought it was okay to take. Don't like leaving chairs and coolers out because you never know when a windstorm will blow them into the neighbor's expensive rig...so sometimes I must say I am frustrated when my wood disappears. I don't leave it by the firering, take time to put it under the picnic table or somewhere else discreet...but it still wanders off at times. If we want you to have our leftover wood, we will come and deliver it to YOUR site before we leave. We usually will do that if we have any left...look for a family that is staying and has kids, and offer it up.

Tacky, but not a big deal, let him have his fun. By the way, he won't get any if I see it first.

I have left wood for the next camper who uses the site. My friend Bill refuses to take any more weight home with him than he has to, the wood is yours.

As for the RV coach type folks who leave during the day, make darn sure they are really gone please. It sounds like some have had their trips buggered by this form of gleaning.

Oh, he would NEVER take it if there was any indication that the site was still vacated...usually we can camp until Monday and most campers leave on Sunday. Then he goes on the fire wood hunt!!! Thanks for your opinions! I was afraid there was this known but not spoken rule and he was breaking it!! That man of mine!!! Great white fire wood hunter!!!

Presumably you mean then that you burn it on Sunday evening - or do you haul it home? Either way - I see no problem with it - if not you - then someone else.

I will admit this. I TOO do list. I normally stay thru to Monday and whatever wood I find leftover from the campers that leave on Sunday, I TAKE. I actually look forward to when the campers leave on Sunday so that I can have this fun. I do use this 'wood' for my Sunday campfire. So, please think about me when you leave. Thanks.

I would suggest that you make a sign to put in your campsite saying "Occupied" out sight seeing, will return shortly, Ect. anything to let others know you have this site. To not leave any sort of indication that it is occcupied kind of leaves it open to speculation in my opinion. And yes I have taken wood left by others.
