We were fortunate in Arkansas - we had great tasting well water that was from the stream that Mountain Valley water came from - so we drank M.V. Water from our faucet. Here in Canyon Lake the well water (I've been told it's well water) doesn't taste good at all to me and I need to make ice. But the ice smells like the water and I can't use it, so I'm buying ice. We've filtered it, so that doesn't help. Maybe if I filter it twice - once with the filter on the faucet and another filter thru the filtering pitcher we have. Any other suggestions? If I can't figure it out I have a $250 ice maker for sale...for less of course!

Use a carbon filter to improve taste. Also use a Brita filter to fill the ice trays. I am running 3 filters in upstate NY.

You might try multiple filters on your water hose and the Brita inside - My house is on well water and it's hard water (lots of iron), and if I use a water softener (which I did) I end up with sulfur water (ug the stink).

Get an under sink carbon filter system, like one from an Everpure, that filters your drinking water and ice machine supply line.

The filters that we use do an excellent job of getting strange smells and tastes out of the water. We have a cheap string type filter to catch dirt and particles in line with our hose , then an expensive .05 micron filter in line with our kitchen drinking water.

Only maybe to cheap scotch and even then not bad water. I don't even add good water to good scotch.

Use of a charcoal filter on the water inlet will usually clear up most taste issues... There are several filters however, some are basic "Taste and odor" (Usually activated charcoal) some are a bit more effective.. Some the output of the filter is very nearly distilled (if not distilled) cost ranges from around 20 bucks to around 2,000 bucks. The low end is likely all you need.
Some filters will reduce water flow, Some waste water... Some are "Throw-a-ways" some are re-newable (Cartridge) Some single statge, some multiple stage.
I'd go for something with a spec sheet that looks like a Camco CX-90 as a good comprimise [url=http://www.amazon.com/Camco-Manufacturing-40651-Ceramic-Filter/dp/B000BUU5VI?tag=particculturf-20]Amazon.com Camco CX-90[.url]
I do have 2 issues with this particular filter..
1: The water inlet attachment to the case is not all that strong.. I used some epoxy like material to seriously reinforce mine (Works well)
2 hen buying replacement filters.. Make very sure they are not broken or cracked
3: protect from freezing, Drain em if it's going to get cold
4: Replace filter cart annually or semi-annually, clean ceramic when dirty
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

One of my sons worked in a lot of third world countries, and researched the matter. He came up with using a Brita faucet filter and a PUR pitcher. Hewas, of course addressing sanitation, but a delightful by product was that all the water tasted better. We now do that for our drinking water and ice at home and away. Our ice even tastes good when it sits melted in a forgotten ice-water glass after half a day. Even Quartzsite water is decent tasting now.
