in preparing for our 2008 vacation (going back to orangeland, disney land, and universal studios) i decided to add the second air conditioner above the master bedroom. in the process of the installation ive discovered several issues that concern me about the overall quality control that went into (or didnt go into) building my 2008 raptor 3612.

my first issue is the free-hand cut for the a/c junction box. there is nothing to mount the box to and it just flops around. ill most likely replace this eventually with a post-wire box. i never noticed it before because i never removed the cover at the junction box before. it makes me wonder what other short-cuts exist that i havent seen because they are covered. i would love to be able to inspect all the frame welds.

my second issue is with the tv antenna. as you can see the mount is screwed into the roof with no way of rotating the mount.

...which would be fine if it didnt point towards the secondary air conditioner. surely keystone knows an air conditioner goes there, they prewire the unit for the installation afterall. the next rotation notch causes the antenna bar to hit the mount guides, and the second notch causes it to lay almost flat but against the dome over the shower. there is no excuse for this.

my third issue is with the primary air conditioner duct placement. as you can see here, its so close to the secondary air conditioner that the cover hits causing a gap between the roof and the secondary air conditioner cover.
at this point i could modify a few things to make these things work, but i spent more on this camper than i spent on my first house and i shouldnt have to modify components so they play nicely together like they were supposed to do to begin with.
....or are my expectations unrealistic?
thanks,
Nathan in Montana

I'd be thankful they pre-wired the A/C, and do what appears to be very minor corrections for fit/finish. No offense, but if you don't know they're assembly-line built, you didn't look/talk around before you bought. AND, there are many considerations regarding location of roof-mounted equipment.
The only item I see that NEEDS a fix, is to get some kind of "pad" to protect your shower skylight....or relocate/rotate the antenna mount a few degrees. A possible option may be to create a small "rest" for the antenna to prevent it resting on the skylight.
That said---have you ever tried to retro-fit everyday after-market items in any TV these days? They don't think much about what you might add on either.

I think you were unlucky. None of your problems with the second AC install on our 06 Raptor 3612. But the big problem is the wiring. They put both AC units on the same Gen breaker on the side of the Gen and the second AC unit shared the same breaker as microwave and coffee pot for landline service. Had to split circuits or we could only run one at a time. Quality is only fair on toyhaulers anyway IMHO.

We didn't op for the 2nd air since its right over our bed and I get cold very easily we hardly run it and we live in so cal and yes we still camp in summer desert/campgrounds whatever.
The bat wing that's an odd placement we have the early model 07 and they made a lot of changes the wing was one of them and if that's where its supposed to go well then luckily I have the old model.
I will go with roc on this there really isn't quality in assembly builds yes we paid a lot of money for them but I paid that for all my cool features and sleeping ability and overall appearance or I would have went with another toy haulers that looked less "home like"
I quit worrying how it was built and concentrate more on what it was built for!
Oh FYI on the 3612 models not sure if they have fixed this yet but watch those back steps they hang down so low we caught something going on an "off road" lol almost ripped them off and now the siding is all crinkled and the out door box got ripped off too fixed that and just took the stairs off but now the door wont open we think its off square now but need to get it in for service but again too busy using it minor inconvenience .
Sorry for your troubles but post fixes if you do.

i realize they are assembly line built but this to me does not excuse poor build quality. they prewire the unit for a/c, and then position the antenna so that it cant close in the mount properly if you ad an a/c? they build the framework in the proper size to accomodate an a/c installation, and then put the duct from the primary a/c close enough to interfere with the a/c installation? i really have trouble finding this to be acceptable, but i dont know what can be done about it at this point other than living with it.

I too am VERY disappointed with the lack of quality on my 06 3612. Extremely poor workmanship in many areas of the trailer. I for one would never buy another Keystone product. I purchased this new so all the flaws are from the factory.

My brother has an 07 3612 and has a list of 17 items he has had to fix. He called the factory and talked to guy in quality control and gave him all the items. If each person does that maybe they will improve. I have an 08 3612 and like it had the 2nd air installed by dealer and thermostat on main unit is in wrong place like you said. Havent used it back in Tx yet since we left for summer in Colorado. Have a leak in slide somewhere. Other minor items. Love the unit but quality control is obviously poor on the raptor.
