I didn't do any "market research", or even ask around before purchasing, but last year CW had a Tent Sale at the NA$CAR race at Watkin's Glen, and I picked-up this Ice Maker for about $150. We've used it a few times, and it seems to do a more than sufficient job.

We have one and like it, it works fine. But, I never take it with us. It takes up room and it's heavy. I prefer to make 4, 1 gallon zip lock bag fulls and put them in the freezer. Still have a bit of room left for the very few frozen items we bring. the 3-4 bags last all week, even through the onslaught of adult beverages.

We bought the Magic Chief SS and it works great. We bring a little ice with us, just to get us started. We used it over Memorial weekend for 4 days and 4 adults and never ran out of ice.

We got a Magic Chef from Lowes or Home Depot (don't remember which) for about $150.
The first one died after a few months and the company that imports them refunded my money. They had me cut the power cord off and send it to them and left the disposal of the unit up to me. We were near Quartzsite at the time so I made a run up the Lake Havasu to get a new one. It's still working fine after about seven months.

The darn things work great and will do a pretty good job of keeping up with four happy hour guzzlers.

There are several different brand names but they all appear to be made in China by the same company and imported with private labels.

For example the Magic Chef brand is imported by M.C. Appliance. Their web site is HERE

I have seen the same machine selling under different names for as much as $80 or $90 more than the Magic Chef price.

We got ours at Home depot, have had it 2 years now and use it everyday. We have it and a small freezer in our storage area under the camper...that way we never have to load or unload them. The ice maker pays for itself...you never have to run out and buy ice

twinsmom04, That sounds confusing. You want to use the icemaker to restock the freezer with ice. Why not just run the ref. on propane? There is only one step involved and it sounds simpler. Just Curious.
