oh sorry, the icemaker is purely to stock my glass for my Mommy Drinks (what my kids call any drink I won't let them share...lol) I will just make a batch or two in the icemaker and then turn it off storing the ice in the freezer. Also beneficial for the pop/juice cooler.

basically just want to know if I can use an icemaker with my inverter (which I can't remember off hand its values) without being plugged into shore power.

thanks

The sticker on the back of mine says it draws 2 amps and requires 160 watts. They made some sort of error though since 2 amps at 120 volts is 240 watts.
If it's really 160 watts then the current draw would be about 1.33 amps instead of 2 amps.
Of course the start up current required would be considerably higher - as much as several times as much.

I would probably go for a inverter rated at least 300 or more watts with a high surge rating and plan on connecting it to the battery rather than a cigarette lighter type outlet.

In any case it has a compressor with a small ac motor that is not going to like the inexpensive so called modified sinewave inverters.

Unless you are willing to put out the bucks for a pure sinewave inverter I think you are out of luck.

Do these Gizmos keep ice over night or are they just an ice maker?

They are just an ice maker, but are pretty well insulated and will hold ice for a surprisingly long time. It is dependent on the ambient temperature though.

We got the Magic Chef from Home Depot based on the mixed reviews here So far its spitting the ice out like crazy just not enough to fill the cooler for the initial start up. Lesson learned.

We have the Magic Chef, and are at Myrtle Beach State Park right now. We cannot make enough ice to keep the outside cooler in ice, although the water is still cold and that is helping to keep the beverages and watermelon cold enough.

It's good for making ice for glasses and drinks though. I suspect that some day I may get a more productive unit, like the U-Line series.

We bought the Edgestar from www.compactappliance.com and paid $119.00 plus free shipping and handling. Makes 3 different sizes of ice. Sure beats buying bag ice and having to carry ice coolers. Below is a photo of the one that we bought
