I do not need a second battery for my truck I need a convenient place to store my boat battery and have it re-charged. How more convenient than in my truck!

Researched solar panels (with RV site guy's having experience - just won't keep up) my fishing demands are greater than reasonable solar delivery.

So - just a thought........ how and where does the 2nd batter option fit into a truck?

never seen a truck with two but know they exist.

You didn't say what type truck you have? I have a 2008 GMC3500 with dual batteries and a 1996 2500 with dual batteries. They have kits to install another battery including the isolation switch and battery box.
I also have dual batteries in my boat that are charged by the boat motor, plus two more batteries for the electric trolling motor with a plug in charger.

I have a 2001 GMC SierraC3. Kinda unique AWD truck. In between GMC name changes from 2500 to 1500hd but was the prototype for the Sierra Denali (believed to have only 4200 built). I would have to install a kit. Just starting research now on possibility of where, what, how and where the battery goes?

Thanks for the reply.

On my '92 F350 with gas engine, the truck did not come with factory dual batteries, but the diesels did. The problem for me was the spot were the second battery normally goes on a diesel was taken up by my air box and window washer & radiator overlflow reservior tanks. I didn't want to spend the money buying all the factory parts for a diesel to fit the battery in that location, since I would have needed new reservior tanks and air box in addition to the battery tray. So what I did was remove the factory single battery tray, move an air cannister over a bit on the fenderwell for the smog system (still connected) and had just enough room to fit two Optima red-top gell-cell batteries together in the normal single battery location. Works great.

I welded up a tray to hold both batteries from angle steel and made a hold-down bracket for them too. I have them wired in parallel with no isolator, charging as one 12v battery. I get plenty of cold starting power and twice the reserve minutes and the Optima batteries are very powerful for their small size. The Optimas are expensive, but worth it, and they handle off-road abuse great (have run them in my Bronco, buggie and other 4x4's used for off-road fun.

To do it right I think you need the battery Isolator. find a place for the boat battery and run the wires from the isolator.

Don't need two bats? Hmmm interesting. Why do you not want to start your truck? Saving on ULSD?

You "could start your truck with one bat for a time however you could end up doing more damange to your truck by making it harder to start.

Our E350 diesel van has the 2 batteries mounted on the outside of the right frame rail below the body between the passenger door and the rear wheel, as there is no room at all in the engine compartment for a battery. That spot is usually open on most pickups for an extra battery to be mounted there, or it can be mounted in the bed.
