We put a cup of bleach into fresh tank which was partially filled and drove home. Planning to top off tank w/ fresh water and was going to dump and then refill to rinse as many have suggested. Unable to dump for the next 4 weeks as the storage place closed their dump station today.
I haven't run bleach water thru faucets yet. Concerned about leaving so much bleach in tanks so long. Is that a potential problem as lots of people say dump it out w/ in 24 hours..
If worse comes to worse we can pull it out of storage to dump tomorrow, but didn't want to do if not needed.
Thanks for reply

Why can't you just empty the fresh water tank, you don't need a dump station for that. We always travel with about 30 gal of fresh water. When we pull into a FHU site the first thing I do is drain the fresh water tank.

It should be fine, it is too diluted to harm anything, but too much to drink.
Might as well run a little through the lines to sanitize them too. It should be fine to dump fresh water on the ground. Just check with the the storage facility manager so they don't think you are dumping gray or black water.

First, it won't hurt a thing to leave the bleach in there.
Second, why are you concerned about dumping fresh water on the ground? It's only water, and it will amount to far less water than you would probably dump on the same ground when washing your RV or car.

It's ok, you'll likely have to flush it with vinegar, then rinse it out and flush it again with baking soda to help get the chlorine taste out. Then try adding TastePure from Camco to eliminate stale water taste.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much bleach!!!!!!!!!!!!
0.13 ounces per gallon of capacity is all you need, or about 5 ounces for the typical 40 gallon tank. Now you might need to do more flushing of the fresh water tank to get rid of the chlorine taste.

WOW that's like 10X more than I would consider. First off chlorine dissapates over time and I would just top off since the existing will be in there that long and as long as there is no smell it should be fine. I might make arrangements for actual drinking water from that tank until you can dump it, but that's about as far as I would go.

First it's fresh water, in fact bleach water, in the tank.. There are very few places where you can not just drain it on the ground.. If anyone asks, it's just bleach water
2: Add more water

Thanks for all replies. It's been very confusing about the water. We only use the camper on weekends and I was afraid the water left in the tank would get swampy and make us sick when we use it to wash the dishes. We always bring filtered water to drink. I was thinking of the tank as like a swimming pool that would need to be shocked since it is hot and we hadn't dumped the fresh tank after a trip last week. Am I thinking wrong?
If we put a just a small amount of chlorine in to keep it cleaner, do we need to dump it all out if we aren't going out again for another week or 2?
Thanks again!

Don't need to worry about it at all. We used to camp maybe once a month during the summer and never drained the fresh water and it was never bad. We are on city water. Have heard complaints about well water. If you are concerned use a tablespoon per 10 gals. That's what is recommended for purifing water when traveling in Mexico.
