Hi all: A friend of mine has a new Copper Canyon,I don't know the model. He runs a small Honda Gen set pluged into the shore cord. the Gen set will be under full laod even with everything turned off and has even triped the gen set breaker. I beleive there is a dead short some where. In the back bunk area behind a draw there is a 4" square metal junction box where the shore cord joins the RV romex. I was messing with that junction and the electrical issues went away for about 1/2 hour. Over the weekend the owner pulled the junction apart and redid the wire nuts. And again the electrical issue went away for about 1/2 hour. No breakers are triping in the RV and the GFI is not triping. I have gone over the condition of the shore cord and it looks fine. The gen set used to run the RV just fine but now it becomes way overloaded as soon as the shore cord is pluged in. Any help

Where would the transfer switch be located. I know the breaker and fuse box, convertor is located to your right ankle as you enter the RV.

Sounds like the gen set. I would isolate this by plugging in to shore power and measuring the amount of current it draws, then do the same with the gen set. The amount of currect should be the same for both.

The 1/2 hour until problem shows up sounds like a heat related issue. Again, I would think it would be the gen set.

I assume you are not having trouble with shore power. If that is true, then again the gen set.

Try running someone else off of the gen set with a decent current flow. See if the problem follows the gen set.

The WH was off, and BTW I just asked him if everything works on shore power. He said he just pluged it in yesterday and everything seems to work fine. (for now). It might just be the gen set.
My big concern was that both our families are going to Sylvan beach at Lake Onieda in a week. I really did not want to spend all my time working on his camper.

If you have a generator of your own, you could try it and at least rule it in or out....

Has he tried it with all breakers off and then turn them on one at a time?
Has he tried running a hairdryer off the generator directly?
