Folks,
Just got off the phone with Freightliner Houston is charging me $485 for a "PM" Preventive Maintenance. Ouch! Was just asking for an oil change on my 2008 Damon Astoria (340HP ISB 6.7l, 8,500 miles) and they say it included chasis lube... they already did it and looks like I am sunk the money.

Isnt this a bit much for a smaller ISB Chassis? How much oil does this thing hold.

Sheesh!

If you specified. Oil change only. You are not obligated to pay for any service. You did not ask for. Were it me. They would have to eat everything over the oil change. Plus. you may want to think about reporting them to the better business association. Sound s like the road side crooks, Just padding the bill.

Just paid $257.41 total at Speedco Indianapolis for lube, oil, oil filter, fuel filter inluding $24.99 for generator oil change.

Our Cummins ISC takes 22 qts of oil.

Did you sign a work order showing the work to be performed with prices before they started? If not, you have them over a barrel. Find out what an oil change and a lube should cost for that unit and that's all you should offer to pay. It amazes me that garages still pull this stunt, must be that most people just pay the bill and grumble under their breath!

Hopefully it was for more than an oil and filter and lube.

Look at your parts ticket. Fuel filter(s)? other parts?

For us to reasonably evaluate the price, you might list everything they said they did.

If you do it yourself, parts for a complete job are in the $70- $100 range including fuel filters, etc.

They should have provided you with a cost estimate that you should have signed,
of course a shady shop would not do this.

I was doing my own, but as age creeps up, I find it easier to have it done. I have started using TA service centers for our ISL 400. The total cost for lube, oil, fleetguard oil filter plus a fleetguard fuel filter is $199.95. That is with your choice of 3 oils, Delvo, Rotella(which I use) and one other, which I forget the brand. The Onan 8KW generator, I still do myself.

I paid under $300 at Freightliner in Mt Vernon WA for the same type of package for my Cat C7 with 5000 miles. They did the filters and oil, lube and checked all the belts, hoses etc.

I wouldn't even offer to pay for the lube.

Here in WA they must give you an estimate if requested, if over the amount by 10% or more they must have authorization to continue. If they do it anyway they lose the right to a mechanics lien onthe unit.
Did you say oil/filter change only or do the service required at xxx miles? If you told them do the required service then you authorized everything on their PM schedule and owe for it.
As Brett said, oil/filters and grease to do it yourself should only run $100 or so and tha's stretching it some IMHO.
