Spent all day Sunday cleaning the carpets in our home.........with a rented rug doctor.........did the whole house in one day........boy am I tired and sore today..........

I was thinking if I owned a machine I wouldn't have to do the whole house in one day........maybe do a room a weekend.......I was wondering if there are any light duty machines worth owning......such as some of the hoover carpet/floor cleaners........does anyone here own such a machine?

I looked online about buying a rug doctor machine but, at $700 I don't think that would be a good investment.......

What says you?

You want a Bissell == we have used them for cleaning rentals for lots of years. Use Bissell products in their machines and you will like the results. I think the price is still less than $200.

I've had a Hoover machine and I currently own a Bissel. Don't like the Bissel-the Hoover was much better. They cost roughly $250 but IMHO it's a good investment.

I've owned a Bissel, but have a Kenmore PowerSpin (Sears) now. I like it better, simply because it's easier to clean.

If you can stand up to the labor, I really believe those carpet cleaners you rent are better...more "industrial."

Hoovers are very good, and easy to use too.

the RED Doctor units are junk next the our Hoover.

in my opinion

We have a Hoover Dual steam vac, love it, easy to use, around $250 and worth every penny.

We have a Bissel StreamVac SpinScrub that I have cleaned a lot of carpet with. It is pretty heavy but works well.

We no longer have any carpet in the house and all it's used for is to clean the motorhome which is 1/2 carpet, 1/2 ceramic tile.

The best carpet cleaner I know of is the guy that comes out in the truck that I can watch do all the work!

I've had two Hoover SteamVacs and now a Bissell ProHeat CleanShot. Each cost right around $300.

IMO the Hoovers were more user friendly and cleaned slightly better. But the Bissell seems to be made better. Both Hoovers lasted only a couple of years each; I believe the Bissell will hold up much longer. (I have two kids and four pets, so I tend to do A LOT of carpet cleaning!)

I wouldn't be w/o a carpet cleaner of my own.

Eric, this is the unit I got & it does a GREAT job! Use it in the Bounder too. Has several "attachments" that will allow you to get into tight places, do the furniture as well as the ceiling. Wal-Mart sells several different cleaning solutions so you can tailor your cleaning to the particular job at hand!

About $250.00
