They send gasoline and diesel down the same pipeline - it gets mixed all the time. Winter diesel fuel is basically unleaded fuel and diesel mixed.
As for adding 2 cycle oil, I would not put that into a 2005 or newer diesel engine.
The recomendation to add a fuel additive that will increase the lubrisity, that miht be a good idea.
Remember that unleaded fuel and diesel come out of the same distiller - just at differant boiling points.
Mercedes allows a certain amount of unleaded fuel to be added to a diesel tank and be considered accptable to use.
I would think that Cummins might say that 5% - 10% is acceptable, and I think you said that the whole 5 gallons did not go into the tank.

He advised to add a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner and then drive the vehicle. When I got down to three quarters of a tank to top it off. I did this twice and never noticed any difference in the way the vehicle has run. At the time I made my mistake, the engine had about 5000 miles. It now has over 50000 miles and it runs like a top - consistently averaging over 10 mpg towing a 15,000 lb. fifth wheel. Don't sweat that small amount of gasoline!
I added 3 gallons of gas to my 26 gallon tank before I realozed what I was doing. Called a diesel mechanic. He said to add 1 quart of transmission oil and 1/2 quart of Diesel-Kleen and I would be O.K.- Drove 200 miles the next day, filled up after 100 miles. Driven/pulled 20,000 miles since with no issue. I have learned to be more careful now. Scared the pants right off me.

My Dodge Cummins 24v LIKED a lower cetane rated fuel. I was in Eastern TN some years back and a station there had 2 selections of diesel .. and I picked the lower rating... just to try-it-out. I picked up at least 2 mpg ...and the truck performed better.
JUST LIKE in a regular gas vehicle ... if you use toooo HIGH of octane fuel ,...it will cost you both in performance and MPG.
Does anyone have a formula on lowering the cetane? ..

in2dp4u,
Thank you for the link, this is an article I am definitely keeping for future reference.
After reading this article, although diluted, I personally would not do anything till I contacted Cummins (always good to be safe then sorry).

Also call your insurance claims people and see if this is covered.
Sounds weird, but it is worth the call.

I did that in New Hampshire once. Put 5 gals in on top of about 7-8 gals od diesel before I caught it. I just put two qts of 30 wt oil in it and drove it until most of it was gone, Had plenty of power, but stsrted a little hard. That was about 50K miles ago. No sweat, drive it like you stole it.Didn't hurt a thing. Cummins are pretty tough. JMHO
