Tornado hits popular vacation spot Wisconsin Dells and drains the lake that the popular Duck rides use. Unbelievable that Lake Delton is no longer a lake.
Footage shows incredible shots of beautiful resort homes falling and crashing in mud slide into the waters as they rushed into the river.
This will be a big blow money wise to this town, that is a popular destination for RV'ers. And the fact that with the fuel prices they were enjoying an increase in visitors this year, with people not traveling as far and choosing to go to the Dells instead.
I hope none of the beautiful ancient rock formations were damaged.
A sad day for the Wisconsin Dells.

This season has done a lot of damage across the country already and now hurricane season is here and the whole earth is shaking.
With the price of fuel and very thing the rebuilding cost will be much more than in the past. I sounded like the Dells had a lot offer and no one knows how long it will take to rebuilt the dam/road.
While it is bad for RV'ers we can fine other spots but the locals have to live the nightmare.

Unlike the global warming hoax, storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, and the damage they do are totally random.

well, A tornado did not hit the Dells. The reason Lake Delton drained, was a road (County A) gave out because of the 12 inches of rain or so. The road went along the lake. There are still plenty of things to do in the Dells

We currently are staying at a KOA at the Dells and on our way in on I-94 we saw places where a tornado had topped tress. All be it, the heavy 3 days of rains has caused flooding and Delton Lake to jump it's banks and the lake is now "drained"
Still a lot to do but the water shows and boat rides in the Lower Dells are all canceled until further notice.

http://cbs2chicago.com/video/?id=45344@wbbm.dayport.com Where did you hear a tornado hit the Dells? A tornado hit Silver Springs campground (which is where we were) and the Lake Delton had flooding, which ultimately causing hwy A to give way and the lake to completely drain. I walked it last night, and let me tell you it is quite the sight.

Looks like this time round they might want to build concrete dam structures with a better spillway mitigation system so they can run the water down before a collapse occurs again.
From the way its described, the dam (road A) holding the water back was an entirely earthen dam and very limited spillway systems, if any.
My heart goes out to those effected, but time to build it better for the future.
While not destroyed by overfilling, a similar dam structure was built on Diamond lake to facilitate draining. The original dam was a road/earthen structure at the north end of the lake.

I agree with Joe - best to rebuild it more solidly next time. What a shame to see those houses breaking apart and tumbling into the water.
Lake Delton is in the Miss. River by now. And the Tommy Bartlett Show will have to fold, or find a new location.

From what I heard on the news today, the Governor has toured the area. The lake had been "drained" once before and was fixed within a couple months. This time around, they expect to have everything fixed within ONE month! I'll have to see if I can find any reports on that . . .
