"Windows® XP, is about to enter its end-of-life on June 30, 2008. This date is the last day that PC manufacturers will be able to ship a new PC with Windows XP preinstalled or sell standalone retail copies of the operating system. For Dell customers, this means that the last day they can purchase a new Dell computer with Windows XP installed is June 18."

Life doesn't come with a safety fence around it... enjoy it anyway.
There is an exception though- for the "UMPC" type (Ultra Portable Mobile Computer), like the OLPC and Asus EEe, XP will continue to be offered, simply because Vista will not run on most of these, and Microsoft doesn't want to abandon that market.

"As of April 2008, Microsoft is extending availability of Windows XP Home Edition for OEMs to install on Ultra Low-Cost PCs. The new OEM end date will be the later of either June 30, 2010, or one year after the general availability of the next version of Windows."
Last Friday I bought a Compaq computer with XP from Walmart.. $228.00 ... it was the last one on the shelf...
Along side of the Compaq was a large stack of ..(12 or 15).. Dell computers with XP installed... They were priced at almost $600.00..
Who in their right mind would pay that much for a Dell computer when a Compaq is selling for half that price...
I have had my experiences with Dell products... "Never again, quote the Raven"

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved. The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

Just a thought, computers have different configurations, and computers with faster processors, more memory, bigger hard drives, dvd recorders, ect, generally cost more then computers with lower configurations, you can actually go into a store and see a range of computers that look the same yet cost fastly different amounts. But not to be too much of a smart a.. go into an eletronics store and look at the plasma tv's, who would pay X dollars for a Sony, when a Visio was half the price (1/2 X), appearantly a lot of people, as Sony sells a lot of plasma tv's
