I have a 27 foot 1999 Shasta Cheyenne. I purchased it used about a month ago and I'm working my way through the various systems. Here's a problem I hope you experienced folks can help me with.
The house air conditioner seems to be operational, but it is not very effective at cooling the living space. The temperature of the cooled air in the ceiling chase measures 52 degrees F with ambient air temperature of 90 deg F, which seems good. However, very little of the cold air flows into the living space. This appears to be due to the nature of the design of the cooling system.
There are about 8 ports in the ceiling. Each port is a circle about 5 inches in diameter. Each port has a plastic cover that can be lowered about 1" to allow the cold air in the ceiling duct system to enter the living space. Since the air in the duct is moving at a pretty fair velocity and since there are no diverters in the duct to steer cold air into the circular ports, very little cold air leaves the duct. This means I get very little moving air in the living space and I don't get much cooling effect from the cold air that's circulating in the ceiling.
Is this the way things are designed to operate? How can I improve cooling performance? Thank you for your assistance.

Try adjusting the vents by closing about half way, the ones furthest from where you want to cool. You can shut some completeley so the cool air will come out where you need it most. You may have what is called a "chill grill" with vents on the AC. If yes, they should be closed to direct the air thru the ducts.

had the same thing with mine.It help it by taping the around the inside of a/c to prevent air lost.and made a air deflector to guide the air into the duct system. it helped a lot. There is a forum where someone had did the same thing and took pictures of it. Thats how i improved mine.plus I tinted the windows and covered the front windshield to keep as much sunlite out.

probably wouldnt hurt to clean the condenser and the rest of the unit might have a lot of dirt or stuff in the fins blocking air flow.that would make it not blow as much cold air.

A quiet little AC powered fan sitting in a corner pointed back towards the return will help even things out, a lot.

Are you sure your a/c coils weren't frozen? If it's 90 in there and you set the thermostat to "antarctica" the unit WILL freeze up thus, no air flow through the coils, especially with a dirty filter. You should set the thermostat to just turn the unit on, and lower it in SMALL increments as it gets cooler.
Does the main grill where the filter is have a dump? If it does, let the trailer cool off thru that first, then switch over to the ducts. 90 degrees is alot to cool down quick.

You say the air is moving at pretty fair velocity. Where is it flowing to? In order to be flowing it has to be coming out some where. Maybe the fan is dirty and the air is not moving all that well. Some RV AC's have an air filter behind the return grill.

It wouldn't hurt to go on the roof and remove the big service cover, and check for lint, like from cottonwood trees. The whole system will run inefficently if clogged up.
I bought from Wal-Mart, a two piece pop-open sunshield made specifically to fit a Ford van. That was one of the cheatest and most effective investments for interior cooling (and heating)(and limited privacy). It also stows nicely in the back pocket of the driver seat.

Look into a "Chill Grille" at Camping World. It replaces the inside grill with one that has louvers on 3 sides to direct the most air to the living area to cool it down fast. Really works, mines been in for 2 yrs and it does a great job. You don't loose most of the cool air to the ceiling and the roof where it is the hottest. Only about 3-4 inches of space between duct and roof.
