I have an 98 Beaver Patriot with a 3126 Cat motor. After every fillup {usually half tank level} I restart and get about 1 minute down the road and the motor hesitates, the warning lights and bells come on.this lasts about 2 heart stopping seconds then all is wel land it settles right down and runs fine till the next fillup. I've owned this coach for five years and all the maintenance is current. Coach has 48k miles. Any ideas. Thanks

Water in the fuel tank, a bad fuel pump or fuel filter.

Does this symptom happen if you leave the engine idle while filling?

Beaver Ambassador Club (owners club) is a good place to post your problem. If not a member consider joining as there is a lot of long time owners that have a lot of experience. You can also PM me if you are not a member and I will post your question.

Since in only occurs after fuel fill up I would check the fuel tank vent hose for a low spot for fuel to collect in. This could cause a partial vacuum in the tank until the fuel is pulled back into the tank. Just enough to starve the engine for fuel but to date self correcting.

CAT RV Club and "Links" to the CAT Yahoo BB is also a great source. Sorry I did not put it earlier. Wolfe10 is the current or immediate past president and very knowledgeable.

We are on the road-- on the way to Bloomington, IL to put on a Rally for 250 members (125 coaches) in the Cat RV Club.

You should be able to use your key/ignition to download the stored failure code. Check your Cat owners manual or call the Cat RV Hotline at 877 777-3126.

And pretty much anytime you could have a fuel-related failure, it doesn't hurt to change the fuel filters. Also check and make sure you do not have any air in the system at the same time. Use the primer pump BEFORE changing filters/when this stumble occurs. If the pump stroke is HARD, no air, if EASY to pump and then becomes hard, there was air in the system.
