I did a fairly large review of the latest SMI Air Force One system in this thread

I can't comment personally on how it compares to other brake systems, since this is the first and only brake system I have owned or used, but I must say overall, I am very pleased with the SMI system.

We use the BrakeMaster. It depends on air pressure from the MH. If you have a DP then you just tap into the brake system. If you have a gasser like us, you have to install a compressor in the MH. When towing we have to install a pneumatic device between the floor and the pedal in the toad. Takes about 2 minutes. Initial installation can be a hassle but easy to use after that. It is proportional and you don't even think about it. There is a small red light on the dash of the MH to tell you when the brake pedal in the toad is pressed, that is all that is required to verify it is working. Cost is about the same as the portable devices but I trust it more.

We also have the BrakeMaster that I use when we tow the Jeep. Works well and will use it again when we get another vehicle that can be towed four down.

We have the SMI Air Force One. Haven't towed alot with it yet, but it works great and I like the proportional braking on a vacumn assisted brake pedal. It also has a break away system that applies the brake on the toad if they separate. I did the install myself. It took all day because I'm very meticulous and literally had no room under the hood for their components, even though the components are small. I'm guessing I could do it in about 4 hours now.

We use the SMI Air Force One and I just read the recent post above that SMI came out with a good improvement recently that uses two air tanks, one on the toad and one on the coach. Makes things incredibly simplier.

The present system is very good, but the updated one sounds great.

I chose it because it uses the air brake system on the truck and is proportional.

DITTO! If you have air brakes on your MH, this is the way to go IMO.

ULTimaRV, what is the benefit of the second air tank?

It acts like a secondary tank(or another auxillary tank) onboard the coach as not to invalidate the coach warranty by connecting an outbound port directly to the coach's air line. Between this and the port sits a rugged one-way valve unit.

Another, much smaller tank, is located within the controller onboard the toad. This is incase of breakaway.
