I'm gonna make a suggestion based on driving several 2V V10 trucks and owning a 3V V10 truck. Look for an '05-up model truck. They all have the 3V V10 that had 60 more hp and 40 more ft-lbs of torque, plus the torqshift trans. V10 trucks are not selling around here at all, and with the upward spiral in fuel costs, I'm seeing alot of really nice trucks for sale cheap because they're being replaced by little gas-sippers. It's only gonna get worse, so it's really a buyer's market right now for a superduty truck.

Have an '06 3valve 365hp V-10,Love it...pull a 7900lb. TT get 10-11 in PA.,15+ empty,I ordered it with part time 4X4 with hubs so that helps the milage and I'm a stick shift guy and ordered a 6spd.manual with 4.10 gears, for me it's a perfect combination of power, torque, value (1.00 cheaper a gallon)even the stick trucks have a tranny cooler in the rad.....Could not be happier with my V-10.

Steve,

Below is a link to All Data... I had susbscribed for a while for the recalls and TSB's when my truck was new... I believe that your 350 may be in the TSB range for modification... Unfortunately it won't be a warranty like mine was...

http://www.alldatadiy.com/recalls/index.html

I just looked in my truck record logbook and The TSB in question was TSB 00-24-4 and dealt with the overheating while towing due to the trans lines ONLY running thru the aux cooler... The TSB replaced the radiator with one that had the trans cooling lines running through it and rerouted the trans lines thru the radiator first, then the aux cooler... The TSB also added a small inline trans oil filter...

Mine was done under warranty because I found out about and complained to my dealer about it and it was done under warranty...

Let me know if you need additional info on anything...

I will echo the favorable comments for the Triton V10. My 99 has 83K and I love it when I am towing. One other issue these motors develop sometimes is broken exhaust manifold studs. The early V10s have a long cast iron manifold and 20 skinny little studs holding them on. As the manifold expands and contracts fron heating and cooling, the studs will break. It can run up to $1,500 to repair them. Mine was just under $1,000. Even with that, I still think these are the best gassers out there if you are towing. I think this issue is more prevalent than those that actually spit a spark plug.

If the truck has the original plugs, you should replace them. If they have been changed, I'd make sure that they were Motorcraft plugs and they were properly torqued when installed. Even though they were factory recommended to go 100K, given the potential problem, they should be replaced around 80K.

Another item to service is the MAF sensor. If you clean it you will notice a big improvement in performance.

Most come with 373 rear gears. I'd recommend looking for a trunk with at least 410 or even 430 rear gears for towing. I recently changed mine to 430's and my towing mileage actually improved 2 MPG as the truck doesn't downshift as much on hills.

I hope my comments don't dissuade you from this wonderful motor. You may not have any of these issues but they are known issues for the V10.

As you can tell, I have one of the newer V10 F350's. Reason was simple: The 3 valve set-up creates more power and the trans is more bullit proof / can handle heat better than the older models. It is one sweet engine!

I agree with your suggestion on the 3 valve V10, however the newer trucks ie: 2005 and newer are just out of my reach $ wise. I have a F-150 that I'm thinking about just keeping for daily driver and have the BIG TRUCK dedicated for towing. This truck is very nice for the model and handles our 6500# TT like it should. Price is $8900.00 and anything I have found comparable is $12000.00 up. I just cannot justify more $ for a newer model, when this one is more than adequate
for our needs. Thanks for your reply, and happy camping.

A lot of good reply's here guys. I make my decision tomorrow on this truck. I really have mixed feelings. I know the truck will use more gas, but boy, what a towing machine!! Anyone else want to chime in, just throw those opinions out there.
Thanks for all the reply's, and happy camping to all of you.

Well!!! We bought the F-350 with V10 today. We also had included in the deal, a complete service, bumper to bumper and full tune up.
I had driven the truck for the past week, pulled the TT to the scales and weighed combined then un-hooked and weighed TV by itself. The truck only had a 1/4 tank of gas and weighed 40 #s more than TT. The TV weighed 6140 and TT weighed 6100. The TT if completely loaded to camp would weigh a couple more hundred pounds. The tongue weight or hitch weight on TV was 980 pounds, TT axle weight was 5120 on 2 3500# dexters. It pulled soooooo easy. I just wanted to keep going. The V10 is without a doubt the smoothest gas engine I have ever driven. I know my over all gas usage will go up a little, but will well be worth it, just for the safety of having a TV that handles the TT so much easier. Some may think this is a lot of overkill, but I had always rather have too much truck than just a little too less truck.
And I just happened on this truck while really looking at 3/4 ton trucks.

We are now very Happy Campers Going to Cades Cove in the Smokies for a week. 6-28--7-05

Our new to us TV should be ready to pick up tomorrow. I am really looking forward to towing with this truck. We can load the bed to max and still have plenty of payload left. A week in the Smokies await us and about 7 or 8 other families, lots of food.friendship and relaxation. Just don't know if I can handle all that. He He
