Just for fun try doing this in your head - I consider myself pretty good at doing math in my head but I had to resort to paper for this one.
If I am running without a toad I get 8mpg average. If I tow I get 7.5mpg.
How efficient would my toad have to be (mpg) in order to make it cheaper to drive the toad than tow it.
Can you do that in your head?

A 1000 mile trip will use 125 gals without and 133 with the toad. So you'll have to be able to drive 1000 miles on 8 gals of gas or 125 mpg.
Now my brain hurts. Here it was just a nice rainy day, guess I'll go to a bar eat some good food, down a few, tell a few lies, have a good time and let the waitress do the math.

Your MH is approximately 6% less less fuel efficient while towing. Therefore divide 8mpg by 6 and multiply by 94 and you get 125mpg as per the previous poster.
Come on, give me a hard one. I need a challange.

You are using .5 gal to pull your toad 7.5 miles.
Or 1 gal pulls it 15 miles.
Thus, it would be more economical to drive your toad if it gets better than 15 mpg.
But, there are other financial factors involved such as maintenance on the toad.

This math is 100% correct. You would have to have a TOAD that gets 125 MPG to break even. If your TOAD gets 30 MPG, it would use 33.3 gallons of fuel for that 1000 miles, you saved 8 gallons by not towing, it would cost you the pricc of 25.3 gallons of fuel to drive the TOAD for that 1000 miles. Not worth it in my book by any stretch of imagination. At todays price of gas, say $4.00 a gallon, it would cost you $101.20 just for the extra 25.3 gallons of fuel for the TOAD, taking in to account the 8 gallons you saved by NOT towing.
Tow it.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that found it hard to do in my head.
It seemed such as easy question but I had a hard time working it out.
Well done to those that didn't cheat
