people buying trailer too big for their truck that is. I just a couple months ago returned to work at the Ford dealer. Yesterday a salesman wants me to figure a way to get a guy out of his lease on a F150 cause it just won't tow his trailer properly, this GUY used to work here about 6 years ago, he is still a licensed mechanic, a quick check shows his truck is rated to tow 8700 lbs. the trailer salesman told him the "dry" trailer weight is 10000 lbs but his truck would tow it fine!! It won't, he can't aford to switch trucks, somehow I don't feel sorry for him- he of most people should know what his truck is capable of before buying and hooking up to that new trailer.
To make it worse, I had to point out to our salesman after the deal died that the F250 with a 5.4 gas is not rated to tow anymore, it would definitly handle better but still several thousand lbs to low rated.
It won't end but I guess it does help the economy when a new truck soon follows a new trailer purchase ( when affordable)

Q: How do you know when the travel trailer salesman is lying about how well your current tow vehicle will pull the new trailer he wants to sell you?

A: His lips are moving.....

Several many years ago working in body shop(office)of auto dealership -- one of the 'truck salesmen' was pushing one of the new mid-sized trucks he assured customer that it could handle 10,000# TONGUE weight. W e l l guess what happened when they dropped that BIG beastie on it -- clear to the floor. He did not last long.

I think those people who lie to the unknowing should be held liable for their lies.
"Pulling it" certainly isn't the same as towing it, heck I seen a couple of strong men "pullling a 16000 tank 16 feet but they weren't towing it.
The truck guys say the truck will pull 8000# but at what price to the trans , rear end and brakes?
I cannot tell you the peace of mind when towing with the proper truck. My 2500 is a happy truck when I hook up if it could be like a hunting dog it would be wagging its tail and jumping up and down. I think people risk themselves and their familys far to often just to save a buck, IMHO

Ah yes, the cycle of life.

I have a truck therefore I can tow a boat or a trailer.
Purchase the trailer, little to big for the truck.......need a bigger truck
Purchased the truck, hey I can tow a bigger trailer.....need a bigger trailer.
Purchase a new trailer............ and the cycle continues.

Not me this time -- went out and got a 05 Chevy DWD Duramax --then purchased my 5vr. Nice to know what the truck can hawl in advance........ saved a lot of unnecessary window shopping

Does it really matter if the front wheels are on the ground, if you're going STRAIGHT to the campground

I think a lot of people see "truck" and think that's all there is to know. I was that way on my first truck. I had to get educated as everyone does. Nobody's born knowing this stuff. Unfortunately sometimes the wrong person is doing the "educating." (Read sales people here.)
