My 1st truck was a little Mazda, When I traded up to a 1/2 ton I thought I could haul & tow anything with that huge truck.

Now I know my 350 Diesel is not big enough for some of the larger 5ers.

I just saw a real nice MDT for sale in Lake county CA.
Or, he can get a Diesel F250, that will pull it.

Maybe if he cannot afford a bigger truck he should get a smaller trailer.
Even with a gear change 10,000 pounds dry is a bit much for any F150.
How is it possible these people that work at the dealer service department do not understand the limits of physics?

What the buyer says: "Can my truck pull this trailer?"

What the salesman hears: "I'm not buying this trailer if my truck can't pull it."

What the salesman says "Sure it can!"

How true, when will people stop blaming salesmen. Your rig, truck and trailer are your responsibility. Stop blaming someone and man up. Seems everyone is a victim and no one wants to admit they should have educated themselves before making a purchase, easier to blame the salesman than admit you made a mistake.

I don't buy that attitude. The salesman comes on like the know it all professional and the unsuspecting people get suckered in. Granted they should do some research and become knowledgable, but you know that is not possible in all cases. Take an accountant that has zero mechanical knowledge...he is prime picking fro a low life salesman. I was in sales for over 25 years and I liked to go home and sleep at night and could not lie to a customer.

You "wizards" have been on these boards to long if you can't remember your first trailer buy. Only if you had a trailer in the family or a TV would you have a clue and guess what if you didn't the folks that sold the trailers and trucks were your means of knowledge.

agree.
its the operators responsibility to know the legal limitations of his rig whether the operator is towing commercially for a living or just a RVer towing a big RV or the farmer/rancher/average Joe bringing a load of .......... from Lowes or the feed store. I can just see mr dot officer/weights trained state troopers face when he stops a commercial operator with a overloaded rig and the operator uses the excuse (its the salesman's fault) I see on this website.
The salesman isn't required to pay the overweight ticket or pay for getting the rig out of the impound. That's the operators responsibility.

Lips don't even have to move all he needs is to still be alive to lie.

I have fooled around with big trucks all my life but never gave pickup's tow capacity much thought (I am the same guy who pulled a 24' Wilderness with a 74 Ford and thought nothing of it). When I was shopping for our TT I knew how much weight I could tow, about how much CCC I needed, and so I was able to match the TT to the truck...but ONLY thanks to these forums because the dealers really aren't much help.
