I have never lost anything to another camper and most campers respect other campers property.
I do recall one year though that while staying in a state park local kids from town came into the park at night and stole beer from coolers left out. Word got out fast and the Rangers told campers to leave beer and wine in the car locked up at night and that ended that!

I would agree that beer is the most likely to be taken. Never had a problem with anything else.

Back in the 70's, we were tent camping. We went for a walk and when we got back to the camp site, we noticed that the tin of brownies we left on the picnic table was gone. We assumed some kids in the CG took them and figured, "oh well". A bit later, while sitting at our camp fire, we heard a strange noise and saw that a raccoon was eating our brownies. Never had a problem since.

Hi All.

Same thing for us. In the 40+ years of RV'ing, we have never had anything taken or lost, or left behind. As another poster said, if its a big dollar item, its best to lock it up, or to at least keep it out of sight. We also use Twin Honda's, and we never even worry about those either. As I built a Customized Tool Box, that is mounted on the rear of our 5er. They are SAFE, they are PROTECTED and they are SECURIED. We can also run our Honda's with the lid closed, and in any type of weather. Using common since also. When in doubt, and you think you have a bad neighbor, then just use some common since. We have found most all RV'ers that we have met over the years to be really nice neighbors, no matter where we go. Good Luck. Happy Camping. Dan & Jill

We caught a masked bandit one night dragging away our locked garbage bin. I guess the little raccoons could smell the chicken bones.

99% of the time we never give it a thought, but after last night we will be sure to bring valuables (small generator)in at night.
Had some young guy in our camp last night at 2:30am????
We are boondocking in the forest, been here 3 days. This is a place we go to often. They pulled in yesterday afternoon...they hadn't seen our Dogs...dogs alerted us and the young guy got to meet Sarge and Mr.Glock

I lock up everything that would be hard or expensive to replace. I don't worry much about the lawn chairs, etc. I would be annoyed if they were stolen, but the hassle of replacing them would be less than the hassle of putting them away every time I left the trailer.

I don't normaly lock up storage compartments, as most everyone has a key to them anyway. I do try to secure the tool box on the Truck, however locks only keep honest people honest. We normaly try to stay in RV parks that have some type of security. When we can we use 55+ gated parks and haven't had any problems. Most RVer's are honest hard working people just trying to enjoy life. Yes we have grown kids and Grandkids. GBY....
