I was curious if anyone has replaced the speakers and/or stereo in your Jayco Baja.

I put a pair of Clarion speakers in mine. They help, a little. I don't remember the exact dimensions, so you'll need to remove one speaker and measure the backspace. Most speakers on the market today are too deep. Mine don't sit flush in the housing, there's about a 1/16" gap. No big deal. Backspace requirements is always listed on the speaker dimensions.

I'd love to replace the radio with something better, but since where I go usually means no radio reception it's not high on my priority list. Mostly plug in the MP3 jukebox, so I think for me a low power amp would be a better solution.

Speaking of the radio, the antenna is a wire run along the inside of the cabinet. I think it may be quarter wave, but I'm not sure. A better antenna would help the radio (lots of drift from the analog tuner, always tweaking it to keep the station). Maybe a half wave run up to the roof, or even an external antenna (car type).

Why? If it's because it's not working that's one thing but if it is to get more volume and bass out of them that's another. I find the outside speakers on my Evolution to be a rediculous standard feature. I know they were put there to appeal to the younger buyers. I have them shut off and never use them. I'm out to camp and get away from the noise of everyday life. The next thing I'm expecting is someone to put in a super system so it sounds like the typical street intersection in the city with bass so high it registers as an earthquake.

Well Don, it's because some of us like to listen to music, and the stock system isn't much better than a battery powered transistor pocket radio from 1960. Now I'm not talking about adding subwoofers and 1000 Watt amps, just doing the basics to get full range sound.

Considering that I usually boondock in places where there isn't anyone around, it's nice to have a little music playing while preparing supper, or while watching the fire (classical music is great for the latter). And when camped at places like Hollister Hills ORV Park or Oceano Dunes, having a system with some power means you can hear your music over the sounds of bikes, quads, sand rails and other music (believe me, you need the diversion at those places).

To each there own, ehh?

I have certainly considered it. I have an '05 10Z and the stock speakers are certainly tinny. I think the deck itself would be ok with the addition of modest power amp. Planned mods including adding a 1/8" input to the AUX in for an iPod and rigging some kind of weatherproof plugs to connect outside speakers.

And before anyone gets upset, we boondock 95% of the time and wouldn't consider using the outside speakers in a campground, unless it was to drown out the generator noise

When I am playing beer pong under the awning, some Jimmy Buffett or Bob Marley from the external speakers is exactly what the situation calls for.

I have not replaced the speakers on my E4, but my experience with marine external speakers is they do go bad pretty quickly. I am hoping for two years out of these before I need to replace.

The 2008's came with a different deck that has a CD player and a 1/8-inch input for your iPod included. Haven't thought about the outside speakers. Although the inside speakers sound bad, I can turn them up enough to hear outside if I want.

I could be wrong, but I would expect any speakers that small would sound pretty bad. Need an amp and subwoofer! Just curious what other folks are doing.

Mine is an '07 with the radio/CD that has the Aux input for MP3 players. The Clarion speakers are 2-way and actually sound much better than the stock speakers - full freq range response. Butt, like you say, a modest amp would be a good addition.

On the other hand, that analog tuner is a real weak point if you like to listen to the radio. FM is OK, but tends to drift; AM is basically worthless. This is a case for an external antenna designed for AM. Maybe give C Crane a call...

I installed a set of Alpine Type S 5.25" coax. I had to make a spacer from some 1/2" MDF I had leftover from another project. I just painted the spacer white and you can't even tell it's there. I also installed an Alpine head unit so I would have an iPod interface and an aux input for my Sirius.
