assuming that you have a back flow preventor and allow the hose to run prior to removing and hooking up, I see no real danger but I have about 25 ft myself from the Wye. if you have the water running when you shut off the wye valve, it can't back up.

Just remember if on negative pressure if the hose bibb is off the water in the black or white will mix to each other until drain dry or balance out, only if something is left on letting air in

I am 100% with you. It is nothing but changing a couple of hose connections when he dumps, a cheap hose that probably costs less than the valve and stub hoses. If something should go wrong you are going to be really ill.
I look at consequences, if they become reality would I have done differently to prevent them. In this case I would change hose connections all day, it's not that big a deal, the health effects are.

A solution, use quick connectors on one water hose. (Be sure that there is a check valve down stream on the black water tank.)

There is no right or wrong in this issue. It's a personal preference.
When we first got the motorhome, I used to connect both. Just because I saw other people do it and thought it was somthing that one should do. I found out that this appears to be a full timer thing. Maybe when we set up for long periods I will consider it again.
After the first couple of times hooking it up, I found that for the infrequent times that I dumped the black tank it was not necessary to keep the black tank flush connected. I can hook it up while the black tank drains.
Plus the wye is just another restriction that causes hydraulic loss.
If you do decide that you have to do this, get a back flow preventer. You can find one at Home Deport or Lowes and they are cheap. More and more jurisdictions are requiring them on domestic water connections. Lots of CGs have them, but people keep stealing them.

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

Seriously then - On our rig there is a place to connect the shore water and also a faucet for water from the RV and then a place to connect water to flush the black tank. I made a short hose that goes from the RV faucet (with a backflow valve built in) to the flush tank fitting. I can flush either with shore water or RV pump water that way. Or if the hose is not connected wash my hands.....

I would look at it as a worse case scenario. Ask yourself or better, ask him: Is there any way possible for the black and the fresh water hoses/tanks/etc to cross-contaminate. If it's impossible then it would be OK. If there is any way by human error or hardware failure then I would not do it under any circumstances. BUT my time is cheap and the extra water hose isn't worth a trip to the emergency room or worse.
