I want to make some changes in the cabinetry in my 2004 DSDP that are fairly extensive, but not too radical. I have read a number of posts from others who have done this and I am wondering who would be the better candidate to do the work... an RV dealer OR a cabinet shop?

I am thinking a cabinet shop that has some experience doing RV work rather than a dealer who probably would farm out any custom work, anyway. Agree or disagree?

Thanks, all.

Agree - not a dealer type thing at all.

I know when we bought our RV the dealer mentioned someone in Camarillo that did good work. they are around and I think some of the higher line class A dealers would know.

Back east there is a place called 'From Trees to These' that everyone seems to recommend.

Without a doubt, a cabinet shop. I have yet to see an RV dealer that had a wood shop on premises. If you really want good work done, a trip to Indiana and the Amish cabinet shops will blow your mind. Talk about quality and fantastic work...we had a computer desk built to match our existing oak cabinets and the cost was $179.00. This was solid oak with 4 drawers and built in electrical outlet for $179.00. The trip was a slight detour and well worth the stop for us.

We have had some major cabinetry work done on our coach and were very satisfied with RV Outfitters, Inc. in Bend OR. Jim and Greg both worked for Beaver when the plant was in Bend and their work is flawless. They matched the corian counter tops, including the edging and the cherry wood cabinets with perfection. We highly recommend them to anybody.

Cabinet shop, and let them take the measurements, they might even have some inprovements, stay away fron partical board and go with real wood it's much lighter that partical board.

I've also had work done by both Greg and Jim and I agree with Bob. I've seen their work on other MH and it is indeed flawless.

You can't beat Davis Cabinets in Junction City, OR. We have had work done there several times (computer desk and dining table; bedroom TV replacement that drops down over the bed; they are currently doing front TV oak trim and wine cabinet). Flawless workmanship, exactly what we wanted, and matches our original wood perfectly.

There is a good cabinet shop in Bloomington, CA called Advance Specialties. Ask for Randy (909) 877-5032.

Nope, do it yourself. Cabinet making is one of the easiest things there is to do. Buy a Kreg Pocket Screw Jig from Menards to screw the face frames together. Order custom raised panel doors through a cabinet refacing shop or on the net. Doors can be ordered for ~50 bucks a piece. Yes, I do wood working, so I would do my own doors, but the cabinet frames are all straight cuts on a table saw that nearly anyone can do.
