Wow - not about the stairs...about being so open and honest! I just don't know if I could muster the humility to take pictures, post them and blame myself with such ease!

Seriously, since you already have a gouge in your doorway of the garage, I would leave the steps out and slowly and carefully back them into the doorway again. Should push them back into shape. Or close enough anyway.
Might need DW to watch to see when to stop.
Otherwise take them off and straighten the side brackets in a vice. Nothing magic about stairs. And what do you have to lose?
