Used our Yellow "Legos" for over 60,000 miles and ten years so far. Haven't broken one or had any issues yet!
Note Hoppy makes little bubble levels calibrated in inches, or blocks, that make it a one time try each time. One mark per block, gotta love that.

I've found the opposite to be true. We've used ours extensively on all kinds of surfaces from sand and gravel to grass, blacktop and unlevel concrete and they have lasted, are heavy duty and I find them easy to use.
To the OP:
We use under both tires on the low side. I usually quickly mark the center of the tire by using a stick and drawing a line in the sand, dirt (or use a small stick on concrete or blacktop). We then pull the trailer forward enough, I build the correct height needed and place the middle block centered with my line and be back onto them. Doing it this way makes it so both tires get centered on each block. I will also make a quick mark in the dirt, sand where the edge of the tire is so I can line up the blocks horizontally so the tire is in the center of the top block both ways. Takes us about 30 seconds to do it all. Very simple and easy.
