Is this acceptable. I'm a Dodge guy and this is a big NO NO. I've read on here of guys towing in 4th (OD), is this OK in other brands?

I tow in OD with my Chev when I can. If it starts "hunting" I switch it off.

All the late model GM truck trans can tow in OD. Allison, 4L80E, 4L60E, and the newer ones too.

I hate to add: My Ford can and does tow in OD all the time, except on rolling hills where it up and down shifts often. Also it is OK, backed up by info in the owners manual. JMO

Been using OD since 97 and no ill effects yet. Since I went to 19.5" tires I have to run about 72 mph to keep the OD locked in while on cruise. Bigger tires would be better with a 4.10 gear, but there's no substitute for cubic inches.

With my current tires, I can't drive in OD, even with 4.10 gears. I will feel fine driving in 4th when I downsize as soon as these tires wear out. I usually lock it in 3rd and leave T/H on because when it shifts into 4th the RPMs are too low to have any power in the pedal. . . I'll slowly decrease speed until it downshifts.
As others said, if your RPMs are fine, you have power, and it's not hunting - knock yourself out.

I put mine in Tow/Haul mode and let the Ally do the shifting, especially in hilly/mountain country.

Depends on the truck you have. Mine, I just turn the T/H on, and let the tranny figure it out. The Allison is smarter than I am.
