I've only been using the forum a couple months DW and I have been camping for severalyears without any major problems But I'm finding out a lot of people have formulas and checklist for things I have never dreamed of So my question is Is there a paticular way to set your brake controler Weve never had a problem and pulled our old 27 ft up and down fairly steep grades and have had to make my fair share of unexpected stops but now I'm pulling about 3500 lbs more so thought I'd see what other people say This is how I set mine Theres nuthin fancy about my controller its set at the proper angle and when I first get on the rd I do not apply the truck brakes but I slide the manual control over to make sure brakes ar working after that its just touch and go If I feel the 5er is pushing the truck I apply more to the sensitivity control and if I thought it was too heavy I'd back off My controller is usually set at about 50-60 percent most of the time Like I say in 7 or 8 years I've never had a problem but can an old dog be taught new tricks

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. The only thing to remember is it takes more gain at higher speeds. The adjustment to properly stop the trailer at 55 mph might be too much brake at 15 mph.

There is more than one type of controller. Set it to feel right to you.

We always kept ours set at about 65%. It was just enuff to feel a good tug when braking. We used (And still do) Voyager BC. Simple adjustments and quite "Idiot" proof.
My 2 cents...

i have been wondering about the adjustment myself. i feel i tend to have to "play" with the controller while driving. like when i am on highway the adjustment for driving thru town is too much and vice versa. is this normal, i thought i should be able to find a setting and leave it. also, i am not sure of what the feel of the brakes should be. when i come to a stop if i feel the trailer tug at the truck i figure its too much and back it off just a bit, but then later down the road it feels like the truck is stopping the trailer. should i still feel the trailer when braking?
