OK, my tires are going on there 4th season. They are now starting to show cracking on the sidewalls, just noticed before the last trip. I am going to replace them, however my question is this;
Will tire covers help with longevity? In other words, would it be worth it to keep the sun off them when the trailer is sitting.
I dont see me wearing them out before age takes it toll, since most of my trips are fairly short, I am guessing I only tow 2 or 3 thousand miles a year. I would like to get 5 years out of them.

Thanks,

Fred

Fred, My dad always coverd his tires on his TT even while camping for a few days. I never did on my 94 Jayco 302FK. The tires lasted
over ten years and then I saw the seperations and got them replaced and that was not a easy thing to do on the road. The tire stores didn't have four only three and that fourth one delayed us leaving for two days. I'm still not covering them but I think dad had a good idea as the area he lived in had a higher UV index than up North.
Watch the Weather channel they give UV levels for different areas in the country. Naturally it is higher in the South. TravilinMan

Covers will protect your tires from dry rot and the sun. For the money, it's definitely worth it to pick them up. They will extend the life of the tires as well.

I cover ours, according to "current wisdom" it helps tires last longer. Don't know if it is true, but in over 160,000 rv miles we've never had a blowout. We replace tires every 7 years (or when they wear out if sooner). Works for us.

my tires where just fine when I was traveling all the time.
One year sitting waiting for the house to sell and in one year sitting in the sun not moving, they seemed to crack over night.

I am a believer that the sun 'does' hasten the process.

It should be an easy decision. Two tire covers are a lot cheaper than a new tire(s). You don't need to cover the tires in the shade.

I cover all four of ours when it's sitting in its parking space off the driveway... The tires are pricey and the AZ sun here can really be hard on the rubber.

Thanks all for the info - I am going to get some covers for my tires.

I am getting new tires installed, Power King Towmax® Radial ST Trailer 205/75R14, rated at 1760lbs each, 50psi, imported by TBC. All my research (google...) shows no major problems, or atleast not any more than any other trailer tires. Also, I am leaving tomorrow for a trip, and these are the only tires available in Walla Walla! Sometimes it's not so good living in rural America! lol

Thanks again,

HC

We had Power King Tow Max tires on our HTT; lasted 3 years just fine. We did keep them covered offseason and much of the time during the season, and made sure they were fully inflated.
