I used to drive across the border into Texas to get it back before they started selling it in Louisiana. It's THAT good, especially the homemade vanillia. A couple of years ago I met a family at a campground who was just returning from the Canyonlands of Utah.......where I was headed. They said they'd had a great time but were ready to get back to "Bluebell Country."

Nationally, Breyer's is much better than BB. At least many here in Dallas thin so. At 3/Gallons of BB for $11.00 (on special) locally at grocers, I don't even buy it anymore.
Back in Omaha we had Goodrich, and down here in TX - OK, we have Braum's out of OKC. That's good enough for me, but I'm kind of a dedicated DQ guy anyway.

Never underestimate the luxury of being able to select. Today, DW will bake a cherry pie, and I've selected Haagen-Dazs vanilla to go with it. I never eat vanilla ice cream by itself, 'cause it's too much like plain vanilla.....

Out here in the Great North West we have a very good Ice Cream called Umpqua, It is made in a small town in the southern part of Oregon. Roseburg, Oregon.
If you are ever in that part of Oregon give it a try, I think you will like it.

Oh, you guys are bringing back memories. Blue Bell ice cream was the only thing I liked about living in Texas. Do they still make the Fresh Peach in the summer? That was my very favorite!!! I may just have to order some one of these days. I did that for my parents for their birthdays one year. Of course, I made sure I was going to be visiting right about the time it arrived!! (LOL).
Thanks for the good tasting memories.

Reminds me of my first Ice Cream Freezer/Mixer...made Vanilla Peach Ice Cream...using a cooked vanilla base...everything went well, even the 2 cups of peaches fit into the 1.25gal. can without raising the liquid level too high...
Then I dumped it into a large container to ripen in the freezer... That ice cream was like diamonds....it took a hammer and chisel just to get the first piece out... Not scoop--PIECE. It froze so hard it had to thaw in the serving bowl before you could eat it... The stuff in the freezer bowl I had to thaw slightly to soften it to a "serving" stage, so I could put it into another container that would give scooping leverage...then it didn't re-freeze so hard and became scoopable... The second batch was plain vanilla, without peaches, and it froze beautifully, absolutely perfectly, to a firm scoop consistency.
