We are snowbirding in florida from Jan 1-Apr 1 at a resort in florida. The resort has storage and will put the trailer on the camping spot before you get there and put it is storage after you leave.

We are really considering doing this with the price of diesel going up. It is cheaper to leave it in florida compared to hauling it back and forth and storaging it here. We don't really use it anyother time.

My question is does anyone else do this and if so how do they like it? Any pros and cons?

I know a few that do, I'm not in that postion. Form what they have told me, It's like they never left. It's in the same spot they had, and they pay a lower rate when in storage. You not only going to save the fuel, but wear and tear. You might even want to get rice burn to drive since you won't need that big diesel. Bill

More people are doing this - fuel, not needing a big truck, and time used. The drawbacks are missing all the fun places while you travel in a car - and the wear/tear of sitting in the extreme heat and sun. I would do it, if it met my needs

We left our RV in Texas when we came home in April. Decided that it would be cheaper for us to lease the lot and leave the RV there than to drive it back and forth from Chicago -- especially with the cost of gas!! We are at $4.23 and rising.

We are hoping that everything is okay with the heat, etc. Other people do it all the time. Just can't wait to get back down there again.

I know several that do it in Texas and are very happy with the arrangement.

Many (70+/-) in our park leave their 5ths on the pad, with tie downs anchored into concrete (due to hurricane threat) for the summer. None of the MHs are left though.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having a motorhome or trailer doesn't it. Why not just get a permanent park model.

Yea, it would defeat the purpose for us. We like dragging ours back and forth across the country.

Being new snowbirds, personally we would find a park model too restrictive. We like being mobile and spend a little time in various parts of the state throughout the winter months. The mobility of both the motorhome and toad is a good combination. Having the motorhome permanently based in Texas or Florida saves a lot gas versus driving back and forth between north and south each year not to mention much less wear and tear on the motorhome. We did that one year, but we hated staying in motels so much that we decided against doing it again. They just don't clean the rooms as well as they used to. Besides, a decent motel will run close to $100 per night, and three or four nights of that (each way) will probably eat up a lot of the gas savings.
