We are hoping to go to Disney World this summer. I am trying to compare cost. Just wondering if I am missing something. These are just estimates, not exact prices. For food in the tt I figure we would only eat out maybe twice at night time, for motel it would be every night and most lunches. I would pack a cooler though and we could eat some lunches in car etc to help w/cost of that and a lot of hotels have breakfast. To stay on base we would have a couple suppers and lunches out. The rooms have kitchens so I can cook. So, maybe $100 for the tt 2 nights of eating out? and like $550 for hotel? Maybe $250 for the base room? I'm not counting eating in park because we would do that regardless. Ok, but the base is about 67 miles from Disney so we would have to drive a little over an hour each day I'm thinking like 5 days, so we have added gas for that.

total $1356 $1868 $1023 + gas $268 = $1291
So, the tt is like $500 cheaper, which I wasn't expecting since gas is so expensive right now. Also, w/tt we can take the dog w/us and the other way we would have to board her. Staying on base is pretty comparable to the tt and we would have to do a lot more driving back and forth.
Fort Wilderness has a summer speciale I beleave of 42 dollars a night. So you would save the gas. You can also buy food deals, depending on what you needs are. Bill
There go your numbers, you'll have to start all over. As Dick B. said, you didn't figure parking each day. And if your at the Fort, you can eat launch there each day. Saving how much. ???????
Just re-read you post. Your driving 67 miles one way, and you think you will be driving 1 hour a day. Try 134 miles a day (round trip), and will be more 3 hrs drive aday. You be on the road during rush hour going. Do yourself a big favor, and try and book your TT at Fort Wilderness and save yourself a lot of we should have, you still have your car to go site seeing and make the rounds in Orland if you need to. Stay on property, you won't be sorry. Use the Disney transpiration system, they know how to move folks around. Also if you purchase items in the park, if you're staying on property, such as Fort Wilderness, you can have them delivered back to the park. There are so many reasons to stay on property.
It's so nice to be able to take the Shuttle boat from the Kingdom to Ft. Wilderness and walk (or ride bikes) back to your camper. No strain, no hassle and no parking fee each day.
Food in the park(s) is very expensive but, I think, one can bring in a cooler.
The best food deal at the Ft. is the take-out cheese pizza at the restaurant next to the Hoop de do review theatre.

Not sure what you mean about Base room, but do not stay 60 miles away! That three hours of driving will exhaust you in the evening. (Picture this:

Rush to leave 7:30
Opening @ 9:00.

Stay onsight. Best thing with a family is to go back during lunch, hit the pool, eat something less than $30 each, then head back to the park when people are leaving.
I don't know what they're running, but the All Star hotels usued to be reasonable, I think you can even get one with a kitchen. My broither in law just came down and rented a nearby condo for a week. 10 minute drive.
If I were you, I'd do the TT. Ft. Wilderness is great.
