Ok, I'm convinced! Now to convince the husband.

Base is a military base. We lived there several years ago, so I know about the drive, and it does suck after a long day at Disney.

You and family will enjoy Ft.Wilderness. The money you save will certainly be spent at the parks

Another plus, is if you book your stay as a package, your all parks pass for the 5 days will be much cheaper than if you stayed off site. Stay at Fort Wilderness, we are planning a trip for next summer.

I must agree with a lot of othe posters -- especially Cada -- you hit the nail right on the head -- about the time everybody else's kids are melting down, we're coming back into the parks rested, fed and having had a swim. You just can't beat the fort. We've stayed there many times, and we always ask each other why we didn't spend more time just hanging out in the campground!! I'm not sure, but I think you could get 2 rooms at one of the allstar resorts for about $150 per night if you want to do the Hotel thing. But do Fort Wilderness -- no question. I've heard they're re-doing the pools to make them themed and a lot more fun.

TraciK,

Are you talking about staying at Shades of Green? I would think the $42 special summer rate at Fort Wilderness would be a better deal and if you have kids they would have more to do at FW than Shades of Green, unless they have updated it and made it more kid friendly instead of a golfer's paradise. I haven't stayed at Shades of Green in years for that reason. We rode through Fort Wilderness before my DH was deployed and we decided that whenever we go back to Disney we will stay at FW because the location is great, you can book a site in the pet friendly loops, and you really don't have to use your vehicle when staying at Fort Wilderness because they have transportation to the different Disney properties.

Forgot to mention this one - it sounds like you are a military family. If so, DO NOT buy the package. Get your park hopper tickets through the base Information, Tours, & Tickets office - the price break is likely to your advantage (at least it was that last time we went).

We are heading to Fort Wilderness in July. After giving all the pros and cons of where to stay, I really pushed for Fort Wilderness. I read tons of info on both sides. Like someone has already mentioned being in my own trailer is my 2nd home and I feel most comfortable having that with me. I have the hopper package for our time we will be at Disney World. We are taking everyones advice on park visit in the morning then again later on. During the day the CG has so much to offer we will be having fun taking all that in, or resting By everything I have read and with you owning a trailer I think you would enjoy Fort Wilderness. I started planning this back at Xmas, I am very happy and feel comfortable with our plans.

You WILL NOT be disappointed at the Fort. We went in September and loved every minute of it. We did the meal plan though so only ate sparingly in the trailer, which was fine with me. It's a little cramped and was too hot to cook. We had the intention of doing parks in the morning and evening with naps/pool time in the afternoon. Didn't work though. My kids don't like to nap away from home, and were well behaved at the parks, so we just played every day by ear. Most days my kids just napped in the stroller when they were tired enough. We took their cues as to when to have a late morning in the TT, when to get in some rest time, etc.

We will never go to Disney without the TT again, and we'll never stay anywhere other than the Fort.

I just sent in the final payment of our trip in September, doing the 3 day park hopper and staying at Fort Wilderness. We have 2 dogs and are going to try to eat most meals at the camper when letting the dogs out. We are first timers and I believe the DW is more excited than the 4 kids!
I was in Kissimmee a few weeks ago for a meeting and stayed at the Clarion Waterpark, our group rate was around $120 and they had a very nice smaller waterpark and shuttle service to get you to the park.
