Well, now are thinking about going and staying in the tent, we could go for about half the price. I'm just not convinced though. I know it is going to be hot!!

Fort Wilderness is a destination all by itself. We typically have more FW days than park days and have a big-time!!! If you can swing it, staying at FW is worth $$$ rather than driving in.

I am constantly planning a trip to somewhere - only wish I got to go on them all ...bugs DW
Got tired of redoing the calculations for each possible trip and made an Excel spreadsheet where I can just input the variables and compare the costs of camping or driving and staying in a hotel. I have been surprised that even with the cost of gas, if you stay more than 2 days camping was always cheaper.

Good luck,
David

Staying in your camper at a campground will be much more satisfying - budget wise and comfort wise than staying at a motel. You will have your own bed/potty/shower and you know who has used them before. You will be able to prepare your own meals when you want to at an agreeable price vs. dining out or fast food.

Fort Wilderness is considered a top campground in the nation, but, if you aren't thrilled with the prices, consider other campgrounds in the area and there are quite a few in Orlando and Clermont. Plusses for FW are the transportation to Disney vs. you driving and paying parking, etc.

We just returned from a trip to Ft. Wilderness from MA. I drove straight through with no problems and we loved Ft. Wilderness. The Disney transportation was great, we did drive to HS, AK and Epcot, but taking the boat from FW to MK is great. If you do drive to the other parks it is only a 5 min drive instead of over an hour if you stayed on the base and the parking is free as a Disney guest.

Ft. Wilderness is well worth the money that they charge. I would have to say that it is one of the best campgrounds in the country. And you get all of the benefits of staying in a Disney hotel, ie extra hours in the parks, transportation, if you buy a souvenir in the park they will send it back to the campground so you don't have to carry it around all day.

The only thing I would suggest is to plan on eating out more then you think. We planned on eating most meals in the TT but actually wound up doing a lot of them at different restaurants. I would also recommend the Hoop De Doo Review if you have never done it before, my kids loved it. Have a great trip.

we are season's ticket holders and travel to Disney at least twice a year. One of those trips is in the MH and the other is usually flight and hotel.

Ft Wilderness is wonderful, but I would not stay in a tent there unless it was November or February/March. The days can get warm even in the fall and spring. The nights can get cold in the winter.

If you take the TT and stay at the Fort, there is no reason to use a vehicle at Disney. We usually eat breakfast in the MH every day and we eat lunch and dinner in the parks.

How old are your kids? The age of the kids and their stamina will set your schedule for you.

My .02- Fort Wilderness, hands down. We also took the dog, and it was wonderful to not have to drive all over as we just took the bus or ferry. We saved a ton on food and gas as a minimum, and would plan the next trip to include days in the campground like we did last time. We were able to go back and forth to eat and let the dog out, etc.

I would not want the hassle of staying somewhere else, now that we have stayed at FW. We will not consider a DW trip without staying at FW.
