We are getting ready to hit the road for a few months. I'm guessing that a Broadband card is a "must". Are there any good deals out there? I'm retired GTE/Verizon and get a 20% discount from them, but there may be a better deal than Verizon..
Thanks,

I have used my Verizon card for almost 9 months now and never have any trouble with it signing on. The only trouble is is slower than DSL. YouTube has a hard time and I watch in bits and pieces of a few seconds in length. Other wise works just great. When my 12 months sign up is over I will go back and see if a newer model is faster.

I'm with Sprint, but have 'National Roaming' and roam on the Verizon network a lot... So far (knocking on wood here) I haven't been anyplace where I couldn't get either Sprint, Verizon or Altel. I also have an external Wilson RV antenna, amplifier/booster, and internal antenna, but I've only had to use it on rare occasions... for the most part I've had very good broadband reception. With a 20% discount I'd go with Verizon...

You don't need to come to our area here in Long Valley then. The Service sucks and there are both Verizon and Sprint towers here. The EVDO service has been down off and on for several weeks and the cell service has also been up and down. Just checked and where we normally have 4 bars for both, we have one for cell and none for EVDO.

I've been asking myself the same question and am coming to the following conclusion. With so many places now offering free WiFi, why bother. Unless you feel the need to be online, in your campground, many of which now offer free or inexpensive WiFi as well, why spend the extra $60 a month, plus taxes. Staples, McDonald's, public libraries, etc, all have WiFi and a quick visit a couple of times a week while you're on the road will keep you up to date on your emails. The rest areas on Route 91 in Vermont all have free WiFi as I discovered on my way back from Pennsylvania last year. So, that's the route I'm going to take.
McDonald's, as far as I understand, does not offer FREE WiFi access. You either have to subscribe to a certain level of AT&T DSL service, have an account, or pay daily useage fees.
From the McDonald's WiFi website: "Connectivity and/or usage fees may apply and be required for Wi-Fi services. Access details, fees and availability subject to change without notice."
Since I have the DSL Pro service at home, I have free access at McDonals, Barnes and Noble, UPS Stores, and soon to be, Starbucks.
