You know... I've always enjoyed the negotiating process of buying a car or truck. It may seem odd, but something about it is fun to me Friends & family take me along to help them when they are ready to buy and I like saving them $$$$, too.
We are in the process of buying a new car to replace my Grand Prix and I am enjoying the negotiating process with local dealers online & by phone. Come to find out dealers have an "internet sales manager" now. LOL I'm used to doing it face to face but this is almost as much fun. There is no "wait a minute I have to get my manager" stuff since the manager answers internet inquiries but the negotiating is still there.
When it's all said and done (& we are close to a deal now) I feel confident we'll be happy with the price we get on the car.
Anyone else have similar experiences negotiating for a new vehicle via e-mail?

We bought our first car thru an "Internet" manager back in 1996. It was the best experience in buying a new car because of having to deal with only one person who actually closed the deal.
Today the larger dealerships have several so called Internet managers but most are nothing more than glorified sales people. They will locate a car, order your car and take you on a test drive but they don't have any say on the price. You won't meet the manager until you are ready to finalize a price. In these cases you still get dragged thru "the process". Could be fun for some, dreadful for others.

We went to both dealerships and looked on their lot last Sunday, when they were closed, after finding the cars equipped the way I want it on their website. That way I have actually seen the cars I am working a deal on. Previously (about a month ago) we test drove one at another dealership so I know I like the model, they just didn't have one equipped the way I want it.
Oh... I've made my way past the "glorified sales people" and am dealing with two internet managers. Chances are good they are actually the new car sales managers and would have the final word on a face to face deal. We all know how that game is played. LOL I think it's fun that they will do business this way now. The negotiations are going quite well, actually. I won't go in to the dealership until this part is done.
It's a different way of doing things for me but I'm enjoying it!

Chances are better they are the 'glorified sales people'.

I guess we can put whatever title we want on these two guys, as long as I can negotiate the deal I am happy with!
Oh, I just checked their e-mail signatures and they both call themselves "New Car Internet Sales Managers".... whatever works!

I have bought cars and trucks through "internet sales managers" and got reasonably good prices and service, but, I have never had a better price and experience as I have had at Dave Smith Motors in Kellog, Idaho.
Go to their site on line, or better yet, give them a call (google Dave Smith motors for the url and number) You will get the best deal ever.
They show you the actual MSRP then start down from the actual invoice price applying a Dave Smith discount and then what incentives are available. If you decide to buy they will pick you up at the Spokane airport and shuttle you to the dealer.
I am not connected to Dave Smith Motors, just a happy buyer.
PM me and I'll give you my salesman's name and number.

Thanks Joe, I may try them but I'm thinking the cost of a plane ticket to Spokane would knock them out of the running.
Although we both LOVED Coeur d'Alene the one time we visited.... hummmmmm might make for a nice vacation.

The "Internet" sales manager at the Mercedes-Benz dealer I do business with here in DFW wouldn't quote a price on a new MB they had in stock three years ago, over the phone. He wanted me to drive over to get a price in person. I then called a man that I bought a MB from in the early '90s here, that now works for MB of Chicago, IL downtown on the Loop. He gave me a firm price on a new MB in stock, and a firm trade-in amount for my MB on-the-spot.
The last new MB I bought, I made the deal in 5-minutes on the phone, drove over and wrote a check for it one hour later. Telephone buying is pretty easy when you know the market.
There's a dealer that advertises on nation radio shows located on Hwy 71 in Missouri. They give firm delivered-to-your-door pricing on new cars on the Internet.
Internet pricing means different things to different dealers.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.
